Beit Berl Academic College
Beit Berl College is a multi-disciplinary academic college for higher education located in Beit Berl in the Sharon region of Israel. It is one of the oldest colleges in Israel. The college grants undergraduate degrees (B.Ed and B.Ed.F.A.) and graduate degrees (M.Ed and M.Teach) in a variety of disciplines in teaching and education (formal and informal), in the arts (fine arts, film, art education, art therapy), humanities and social sciences. The college also issues teaching certificates for academics and various types of diplomas. History Beit Berl was established in 1949 on the grounds of Kalmania farm as an educational institution of Mapai. It was designed to realize and perpetuate the ideological legacy of Berl Katznelson. Yuli Tamir
Yael "Yuli" Tamir (; born 26 February 1954) is an Israeli academic and former politician who served as a member of the Knesset for the Labor Party between 2003 and 2010, and as Minister of Immigrant Absorption and Education, as well as the deputy speaker of the Knesset and a member of the Finance committee, the Education committee and the Security and Foreign Affairs committee. Aharon Avni
Aharon Avni (Kaminkovitz) (; November 27, 1906 – March 23, 1951) was an Israeli painter, born in Russia, a member of the 'Massad (art group), Massad' group, founder of the 'Avni Institute,' and one of the founders of the HaMidrasha – Faculty of the Arts, HaMidrasha For the arts. Life Early life He was born in 1906 in Yekaterinoslav, Russia. His father, Michael-David, was a renowned engineer and an enthusiastic Zionist who was the son-in-law of Rabbi Chaim Berlin. Education In Israel
Education in Israel encompasses compulsory education, which spans from kindergarten through 12th grade, and higher education, which is characterized by a public university system and significant government subsidies. Nurit Buchweitz
Nurit Buchweitz (Hebrew: נורית בוכויץ) is the Dean of the Faculty of Society and Culture at Beit Berl College in Israel, where she has lectured since 1994 in the Department of Hebrew and Comparative Literature, and the English department. Education Buchweitz earned her BA and MA from Tel Aviv University in Poetics and General Literature. Buchweitz completed her Ph.D. in 2001 in Comparative Literature at School of Jewish Studies at Tel Aviv University. Hillel Roman
Hillel Roman () is a visual artist living and working in Tel Aviv, Israel. Biography At age 24 he joined Hamidrasha Art School, Beit Berl College, Israel. In 2004 Roman graduated from Tel-Aviv University, the Department for Poetics and Comparative Literature (magna cum laude), and in 2007 he received his Masters of Fine Arts from Goldsmiths College, University of London. Roman employs a wide range of techniques, from drawing, painting and conceptual art, through sculpting and etching, to building fully functional astronomical observatories. Michal Heiman
Michal Heiman (; born in Tel Aviv) is a Tel Aviv-Yafo based artist, curator, theoretician and activist. She is the founder of the ''Photographer Unknown Archive'' (1984) and creator of the Michal Heiman Tests No. 1-4 (M.H.T). Her work bears on issues of history, human and women's rights, trauma, and memory, as well as an examination of the photographic medium, using reenactment, installation, archival materials, photographs, film, and lecture-performances. Simcha Shirman
Simcha Shirman (; born 1947) is a German-born Israeli photographer and educator. Biography Early life Simcha Shearman was born in 1947 to Batya and David, both Holocaust survivors. He was born in Saint Ottilien Convent, which was converted by USA occupation authorities to a soldier and refugee hospital after WWII. His birth certificate states that he is a displaced person. The small family immigrated to Israel in May 1948 and settled in the city of Acre. Shirman got the first camera when he was 12 - a relative from America who visited Israel gave it to him and at the age of 15 purchased and set up a photo lab in the bathroom of the small house in Acre's neighborhoods. Boaz Arad
Boaz Arad (; 16 March 1956 – 2 February 2018) was an Israeli visual artist. He worked in a variety of media including painting, sculpture, photography, and video. Biography Arad was born in Tel Aviv in 1956. Arad studied art at the Avni Institute of Art and Design in Tel Aviv in 1978–1982. His work is in collections of a number of museums, including the Israel Museum in Jerusalem. In 2003, Arad was a recipient of a Prize for the "Encouragement of Creative Art", awarded by the Israeli Ministry of Education and Culture. Gideon Gechtman
Gideon Gechtman (; 17 December 1942 – 27 November 2008) was an Israeli artist and sculptor. His art is most noted for holding a dialogue with death, often in relation with his own biography. Biography Gideon Gechtman was born on 17 December 1942 in Alexandria, Egypt. He moved to the British mandate of Palestine with his family in 1945. Guy Ben-Ner (; born 1969) is an Israeli video artist. He lives and works in Tel Aviv, Berlin and New York City. Biography Guy Ben-Ner received a Bachelor of Arts in Education in 1997 from Hamidrasha School of Art and a Master of Fine Arts from Columbia University in New York City in 2003. Avi Lubin
Avi Lubin (; born 1977) is an Israeli curator of contemporary art. As of 2023 he is the chief curator of Mishkan Museum of Art, Ein Harod. Between 2018-2023 he was the curator of Hamidrasha Gallery. Lubin is also the co-founder and co-editor of Tohu Magazine, and the curator of Field Hospital X – Aya Ben Ron's work, which represented Israel at the 58th Venice Biennale, 2019.
