Beirut I Love You
''Beirut I Love You'' is a Lebanese television/web-series which aired on the Lebanese Broadcasting Corporation (LBC). The series stars Mounia Akl and Cyril Aris, both of whom developed the show. Concept The series follows several 20-somethings living in Beirut as they attempt to balance work, love, and life. Production ''Beirut I Love You'' is produced by Orange Dog Productions and shoot on location in Beirut, Lebanon. The LBC ordered 35 episodes of the show. An Arab television drama or Arab soap opera (also known as musalsal (), plural musalsalat ()) is a television form of melodramatic serialized fiction. The musalsalat are similar in style to Latin American telenovelas. They are often historical epics about Islamic figures or love stories involving class conflict and intrigue. The word ''musalsal'' literally means "chained, continuous". During the evenings of the month of Ramadan, after the Iftar meal is eaten to break the day's fast, families across much of the Arab world watch these special dramas on television. Arab satellite channels broadcast the programs each night, drawing families who have gathered to break their fast. Most musalselat are bundled into about 30 episodes, or about one episode for each night of Ramadan. The Lebanese Broadcasting Corporation International (), widely known as LBCI (), Lebanese Broadcasting Corporation () or LBC () is a private television station in Lebanon. LBCI was founded in 1992 by acquiring the assets, liabilities and logo of LBC, an entity founded in 1985 during the Lebanese Civil War by the Lebanese Forces militia. Mounia Akl
Mounia Akl () is a Lebanese actress, screenwriter, and director. She is perhaps best known for her film '' Costa Brava, Lebanon'', which premiered at the 2021 Venice Film Festival. Early life Akl was born in Lebanon. She received a bachelor's degree in archtitecture from the Lebanese Academy of Fine Arts (ALBA) and a master of fine arts in directing from Columbia University. Career In 2011, she along with Cyril Aris created Beirut I Love You, a Lebanese television/web-series. She has since written and or directed several shorts, television episodes, and one feature-length film, ''Costa Brava, Lebanon''. In July 2024, it was announced that Akl will direct three episodes of the upcoming Netflix series ''House of Guinness.'' In March 2025, she was selected for TorinoFilmLab’s ScriptLab 2025.
