Beijing Auto Museum
The Beijing Auto Museum is an automotive museum in Beijing, China, which opened in 2011. With 50,000 square meters and 5 floors, it is the largest auto museum in China. History The Beijing Auto Museum began construction in 2006, and the building was completed in 2010. It was officially opened to the public the next year, in 2011. On May 18, 2019, the Beijing Auto Museum was recognized by the Chinese Museum Association out of over 5,000 other museums in the country as the "most innovative museum in China". Collection In 2014, the collection of cars in the Beijing Auto Museum numbered 80. However, several of the cars in the collection are replicas, such as the Benz Patent-Motorwagen. Domestic vehicles on display include state cars from Hongqi, military jeeps from Beijing Automobile Works, and replica Dongfanghong and Dongfeng civilian cars. The GAZ M21 Volga is an automobile produced in the Soviet Union by GAZ (Gorkovsky Avtomobilniy Zavod, in English "Gorky automobile factory") from 1956 to 1970. The first car to carry the Volga name, it was developed in the early 1950s. Volgas were built with high ground clearance (which gives it a specific "high" look, contrary to "low-long-sleek" look of Western cars of similar design), rugged suspension, strong and forgiving engine, and rustproofing on a scale unheard of in the 1950s. The ZIS-110 is a Soviet limousine from ZIL introduced in 1946. The 110 was developed from the reverse engineering of a 1942 Packard Super Eight during 1944. The first five prototypes were completed by August 1945. It was powered by a 6-litre, straight 8-cylinder engine, producing and giving a top speed of over . It was made in both sedan and convertible versions. The ZIS was rumored to use machinery from the Packard 180 assembly line which was sent to the USSR after American production ended. However, according to ''The Fall of the Packard Motor Car Company'', there is no evidence whatsoever in the Packard archives of such a transfer. The Dongfanghong BJ760 () is an executive sedan produced by BAW. Development started as a licensed copy of the GAZ-21 Volga with asssistance from the Soviets sharing chassis units, drawings and blueprints for reference, and was produced from 1960 to 1969 with a total of 238 units produced. It replaced the Jinggangshan sedan by BAW. During development, the car was named Xinghuo 76 (Spark 76), but was later changed to Dongfanghong for the production version. The name Dongfanghong means " The East is Red" and refers to a patriotic song of the Chinese Communist Party. The name has been used by multiple companies for branding and product names. Chang Jiang () is the transcribed brand name of motorcycles that were once manufactured by the China Nanchang Aircraft Manufacturing Company. It takes its name from the Chang Jiang River, also known as the Yangtze or, in English, the Long River.
