Aphra Behn
Aphra Behn (; baptism, bapt. 14 December 1640 – 16 April 1689) was an English playwright, poet, prose writer and translator from the Restoration (England), Restoration era. As one of the first English women to earn her living by her writing, she broke cultural barriers and served as a literary role model for later generations of women authors. Rising from obscurity, she came to the notice of Charles II of England, Charles II, who employed her as a spy in Antwerp. Upon her return to London and a probable brief stay in debtors' prison, she began writing for the stage. She belonged to a coterie of poets and famous libertines such as John Wilmot, Lord Rochester. Behn wrote under the pastoral pseudonym Astraea (mythology), Astrea. Sosthenes Behn
Sosthenes Behn (January 30, 1884 – June 6, 1957) was an American businessman, and the founder of ITT. He held the rank of lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army. Biography Early years Sosthenes Behn was born in the island of St. Thomas, then part of the Danish West Indies. His ancestry was Danish on his paternal side, and part French on his maternal side. His maternal grandfather was Sephardic Jewish. Behn served in the United States Army and was commissioned a captain, Signal Corps, on June 19, 1917. He later achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, having served with distinction during World War I. Behn served with the American Expeditionary Force (AEF) in France until February 1919. He was given command of the 232nd Field Signal Battalion, Château-Thierry, Saint-Mihiel, Argonne. Behn's bat, Behn's big-eared bat, or Behn's graybeard bat (''Glyphonycteris behnii'') is a species of bat in the family Phyllostomidae found in Brazil and Peru. It is known only from six specimens and is considered rare. It feeds on insects and small fruits. Taxonomy and etymology Behn's bat was described in 1865 by German naturalist Wilhelm Peters. Peters placed it in the now-defunct genus ''Schizostoma'' with a scientific name of ''Schizostoma behnii''. The holotype was collected in Cuiabá, Brazil. In 1898, Gerrit Smith Miller Jr. reclassified it, placing it in the genus ''Micronycteris''. In 1906, Knud Andersen placed it in ''Glyphonycteris'' but spelled the species name as ''behni''. Behn River
The Behn River or Behm River is a river in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. The river rises on the Northern Territory and Western Australia border. The river then flows in a north-easterly direction through Behn Gorge and discharges into Lake Argyle. The tributary with the Ord River was the site of the original Argyle Downs homestead. Both the original tributary and the Argyle homestead site are now under the waters of Lake Argyle. The river has one major tributary; Bell Creek. Wilhelm Friedrich Georg Behn (25 December 1808, Kiel – 14 May 1878, Dresden) was a German anatomist and zoologist. For eight years he was president of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina. From 1828 he studied medicine at the Universities of Göttingen and Kiel, afterwards continuing his education in Paris (1834), where he made the acquaintanceships of famed scientists that included Dupuytren, Flourens, Poiseuille and Chevreul. Sarla Behn (born Catherine Mary Heilman; 5 April 19018 July 1982) was an English Gandhian social activist whose work in the Kumaon region of India helped create awareness about the environmental destruction in the Himalayan forests of the state. She played a key role in the evolution of the Chipko Movement and influenced a number of Gandhian environmentalists in India including Chandi Prasad Bhatt, Bimala behn and Sunderlal Bahuguna. Along with Mirabehn, she is known as one of Mahatma Gandhi's two English daughters. The two women's work in Garhwal and Kumaon, respectively, played a key role in bringing focus on issues of environmental degradation and conservation in independent India. Ari Mikael Behn (; , or ; 30 September 1972 – 25 December 2019) was a Norwegian author, playwright, and visual artist, best known for his marriage to Princess Märtha Louise of Norway from 2002 to 2017. He held no title or special status, and he remained a private citizen during the marriage.
