Behbud Mustafayev
Behbud Mustafayev (born March 13, 1982, Baku, Azerbaijan SSR, USSR) is the first Azerbaijani Catholic priest in the history of the Roman Catholic Church. Life He graduated from the secondary school at the Azerbaijan National Aviation Academy and after that worked as an officer of the Customs Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan. In 2008, Mustafayev converted to Roman Catholicism and was baptized in Church of the Immaculate Conception in Baku. In 2011, he entered in the seminary Mary Queen of the Apostles in Saint Petersburg. On May 29, 2016, in the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in St. Petersburg, his ordination to deacon was held to serve in the apostolic prefecture of Azerbaijan. The Apostolic Prefecture of Azerbaijan is a Roman Catholic Apostolic Prefecture (missionary jurisdiction) in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan. It is exempt, i.e. directly subject to the Holy See, not part of any ecclesiastical province. It has one church and four chapels situated in Baku, including its pro-cathedral the Church of the Immaculate Conception. Its legal status is ensured by the local law of the Azerbaijan Republic and is having a special status thanks to the Concordat signed by Pope John Paul II and former president Heydar Aliyev. Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary was a Catholic cathedral in the city of St. Petersburg from 1873 to 1926 and the residence of Metropolitan of Mogilev, the head of the Catholic Church in the Russian Empire. The Church of the Virgin Mary’s Immaculate Conception ( az, Müqəddəs Bakirə Məryəm kilsəsi, russian: Церковь Непорочного Зачатия Пресвятой Девы Марии) is a Roman Catholic church in Baku, Azerbaijan.
