Flemington Racecourse
Flemington Racecourse is a major horse racing venue located in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. It is most notable for hosting the Melbourne Cup, which is the world's richest handicap and the world's richest 3200-metre horse race. The racecourse is situated on low alluvial flats, next to the Maribyrnong River. The area was first used for horse racing in March 1840. Little Creatures Brewery Pty Ltd is a brewery based in Fremantle, Western Australia, operating as a subsidiary of the Japanese firm Kirin Company. Victoria Racing Club
The Victoria Racing Club was founded in 1864. It was formed following the disbanding of the Victoria Turf Club and the Victoria Jockey Club. A legacy passed from the Victoria Turf Club was the annual "race that stops a nation", the Melbourne Cup, which was first contested in 1861. From its foundation in 1864 until 2001, the Victoria Racing Club was the responsible authority for the conduct of thoroughbred racing in the State of Victoria, Australia. Since 2001, this role has been managed by Racing Victoria Limited. The VRC is managed by an unpaid committee, elected by club members. The Victoria Derby, also known as the Penfolds Victoria Derby, is a Victoria Racing Club Group races, Group 1 Thoroughbred horse race for three-year-olds held under Set Weights conditions over a distance of 2,500 metres at Flemington Racecourse, in Melbourne, Australia scheduled annually on the first day of the Melbourne Cup Carnival. The Newmarket Handicap is a Victoria Racing Club Group One, Group 1 Thoroughbred open handicap horse race over a distance of 1200 metres, at Flemington Racecourse, Melbourne, Australia on Super Saturday in March during the VRC Autumn Racing Carnival. Tofane (horse)
Tofane (foaled 12 September 2015) is a New Zealand-bred and Australian raced thoroughbred racehorse that has one four Group One races. Background Tofane is by the stallion Ocean Park, the winner of 5 Group One races. She was bred by Gordon Cunningham in New Zealand. Tofane is out of the Australian mare, Baggy Green, who is a granddaughter of champion European mare, User Friendly. Baggy Green is also a half sister to Queensland Oaks winner Youngstar, and a three-quarter sister to Flight Stakes winner Funstar. Tofane is also the half-sister to No Compromise, the winner of the Group 3 N E Manion Cup. Tofane was originally entered for the 2017 New Zealand Bloodstock yearling sale, however Cunningham removed her from the sale and retained ownership. Ortensia (horse)
Ortensia (foaled 16 September 2005 – 5 June 2016) was an Australian thoroughbred racehorse. A sprinter, she won Group One races on three continents. The mare died while in foal to Redoutes Choice on the weekend of 4/5 June 2016, having to be euthanized due to a tumour that developed on one of her lungs, severely reducing her ability to breathe. She has two fillies a yearling by Choisir and a weanling by Dream Ahead. Ortensia was 10 years old. Background Ortensia was a bay mare bred in New South Wales by L. D. Rhodes. She is one of many successful sprinters and milers sired by Testa Rossa who won six Grade One races in 1999 and 2000.
