Beer is an alcoholic beverage produced by the brewing and fermentation of starches from cereal grain—most commonly malted barley, although wheat, maize (corn), rice, and oats are also used. The grain is mashed to convert starch in the grain to sugars, which dissolve in water to form wort. Fermentation of the wort by yeast produces ethanol and carbonation in the beer. Beer is one of the oldest and most widely consumed alcoholic drinks in the world, and one of the most popular of all drinks. Most modern beer is brewed with hops, which add bitterness and other flavours and act as a natural preservative and stabilising agent. Beers ( Brabants: ''Bèèrs'') is a village in the former Dutch municipality of Cuijk. It is located about 4 km west of Cuijk. Since 2022 it has been part of the new municipality of Land van Cuijk. Beers has a population of about 1,721, of which 1,305 reside in the village itself, and 416 in the surrounding countryside, including the hamlets De Plaats and Dommelsvoort. Samuel Beers House is a historic residence in Fredericktown, Ohio, U.S.. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1979, for the architecture. It has also been referred to as the John Beers House. History It was constructed in for John Beers (1807–1878), who was from New Jersey and was once a large landowner and farmer in Knox County, Ohio. The house was built in the Italianate style, and using bricks with a sandstone foundation; both the style and materials were unusual for the area. It contains a two story portico with four columns, and an arched front door.
