Sungai Petani Municipal Council
Sungai Petani Municipal Council is the local government which administers Sungai Petani and the whole Kuala Muda District, Kedah, Malaysia. It is the most populous local government in Kedah. Origins of the establishment The early history of the establishment of the Local Government system in Sungai Petani began in the 1950s, when the Local Councils Ordinance, 1952 was approved and adopted. Then, in 1953, the Lembaga Bandaran Sungai Petani (Sungai Petani Town Board) for the administration of the town area was established. Sungai Lalang (abbreviated ''Sg. Lalang'') is a small town in Kuala Muda District, Kedah, Malaysia. It is located 5 kilometer north from Sungai Petani. Sg. Lalang River (''Sungai Sg. Lalang'') situated in this town flows into the Merbok River (''Sungai Merbok''). Postcodes People in Sungai Lalang uses two different postcodes; the west side of Sungai Lalang falls in Merbok electoral district and uses the postcode of Bedong, 08100 whereas the east side falls in Sungai Petani electoral district and uses postcode of Northern Sungai Petani, 08000. Kedah

The Kuala Muda District is a district in Kedah, Malaysia. Sungai Petani is the administrative center of the district. Kuala Muda district is in close proximity to the border of Kedah and Penang. Apart from Sungai Petani, other major towns in the district include Tikam Batu, Padang Tembusu, Sungai Lalang, Bedong, Bukit Selambau, Sidam, Gurun, Semeling, Merbok, Kota Kuala Muda and Tanjung Dawai.
