History Of Portsmouth
Portsmouth is an island port city situated on Portsea Island in the county of Hampshire, England. Its history has been influenced by its association with the sea, and its proximity to London, and mainland Europe. Roman Portus Adurni which later became known as Portchester Castle, was one of the Saxon Shore forts and was a major base of the Classis Britannica and possibly its Headquarters. Pre-Norman Although there have been settlements in the area since before Roman times, mostly being offshoots of Portchester, Portsmouth is commonly regarded as having been founded in 1180 by John of Gisors ( Jean de Gisors). Bede Jarrett
Bede Jarrett OP (22 August 1881 – 17 March 1934) was an English Dominican friar and Catholic priest who was also a noted historian and author. Known for works including ''Mediæval Socialism'' and ''The Emperor Charles IV'', Jarrett also founded Blackfriars Priory at the University of Oxford in 1921, formally reinstating the Dominican Order at that university for the first time since the Dissolution of the Monasteries under King Henry VIII. Club career Born in Aquidauana, Mato Grosso do Sul, Beda joined Flamengo's youth setup in 2002, aged 13, after starting it out at lowly locals SEDUC. Leonid Ignatyevich Beda (russian: Леони́д Игна́тьевич Беда́; 16 August 1920 – 26 December 1976) was a ground-attack squadron commander in the Soviet Air Forces during the Second World War who went on to become a Lieutenant-General of Aviation. He completed over 214 sorties on the Ilyushin Il-2 during the war, for which he was twice awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union. Early life Beda was born to a Ukrainian family in Novopokrovka village of the RSFSR, which is currently located in Kazakhstan. After completing his seventh grade of school in 1936 he attended an aeroclub and the Ural Pedagogical Institute, which he graduated from in 1940. Johann Chrysanth "Beda" Weber (26 October 1798 – 28 February 1859) was a German Benedictine professor, author, and member of the Frankfurt Parliament. Biography Weber was born at Lienz, Tyrol, quite talented, completing high-school coursework at Bozen (Bolzano) in four years. He studied philosophy at Innsbruck for two years. His father wished him to learn a trade as well as the ordinary work of a peasant, and thus Weber became a shoemaker. Beda Maria Stjernschantz (10 December 1867 — 28 May 1910) was one of the first Finnish symbolist painters, whose main creative period was during the 1890s' '' fin de siècle'' epoch. Beda Stjernschantz was born in Porvoo to ( Blidberg) and his second wife Alma Charlotta Sirén. Bede Durbidge (born 23 February 1983) is an Australian professional surfer competing on the World Surf League World Tour. Durbo, Bej and The White Fijian are his nicknames. Life Bede Durbidge was born in Brisbane, Queensland and grew up in Point Lookout, on North Stradbroke Island. He began in the Australasian Junior Series, and after four years in the World Qualifying Series joined the World Championship Tour in 2005. Anglo-Saxon Chronicle
The ''Anglo-Saxon Chronicle'' is a collection of annals in Old English, chronicling the history of the Anglo-Saxons. The original manuscript of the ''Chronicle'' was created late in the 9th century, probably in Wessex, during the reign of Alfred the Great (r. 871–899). Multiple copies were made of that one original and then distributed to monasteries across England, where they were independently updated. In one case, the ''Chronicle'' was still being actively updated in 1154. Nine manuscripts survive in whole or in part, though not all are of equal historical value and none of them is the original version. The oldest seems to have been started towards the end of Alfred's reign, while the most recent was written at Peterborough Abbey after a fire at that monastery in 1116. Beda František Dudík (29 January 1815, Kojetín – 18 January 1890, Rajhrad) was a historian and Benedictine monk in the Rajhrad Monastery. Life After studying at the philosophical school at Brno he attended the University of Olomouc. In 1836 he entered the Benedictine Order and in 1840 was ordained priest at Rajhrad. Then until 1854 he taught first the classical languages and then history at the gymnasium of Brünn. Captain Sir Bede Edmund Hugh Clifford (3 July 1890 – 6 October 1969) was a British diplomat and colonial administrator, born in New Zealand, where his parents had moved in an unsuccessful attempt at sheep-farming. His parents were William Hugh Clifford, 10th Baron Clifford of Chudleigh and Catherine Mary Bassett. After New Zealand they moved to Tasmania; he did not attend a regular school until he was 10.
