Bective Rangers
Bective Rangers Football Club is a rugby union club in Dublin, Ireland founded in 1881. The Club is affiliated to the Leinster Branch of the Irish Rugby Football Union and played in Division 1A of the Leinster League until the 2024-25 Season. Having won the All Ireland League Provincial Qualifier in April 2025, the club will return to the Energia All Ireland league Division 2C in the 2025/26 Season. The club plays its games at the Donnybrook Rugby Ground in Donnybrook with a second grounds at Glenamuck. The Club fields teams from Minis, Youth, U20s Juniors, Senior and Vets. History The club origins stem from the establishment of Bective House College by Dr. John Lardner Burke at 15 Rutland Square (now Parnell Square East) in 1834. Bective house was one of a number of houses on the square owned by the Earl of Bective for whom the house was named. Irish Rugby Football Union
The Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU) () is the body managing rugby union in the island of Ireland (both Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland). The IRFU has its head office at 10/12 Lansdowne Road and home ground at Aviva Stadium, where adult men's Ireland national rugby union team, Irish rugby union international matches are played. Leinster Senior Cup (rugby Union)
The Leinster Senior Cup is a major rugby competition in Ireland, involving all senior rugby clubs in Leinster, i.e., clubs from Leinster competing in the All-Ireland League. From 2006 until 2016 it was known as the Leinster Senior League Cup during the period when the Leinster Senior League had been discontinued, but reverted to its traditional name for the 2016–17 season upon the revival of the Senior League. From 2011 to 2016 only the top senior teams competed and those in the lower divisions of the All-Ireland League competed for the Leinster Senior League Shield. Louis Magee
Aloysius Mary "Louis" Magee (1 May 1874 – 4 April 1945) was an Irish people, Irish rugby union halfback. Magee played club rugby for Bective Rangers and London Irish and played international rugby for Ireland national rugby union team, Ireland and was part of the British and Irish Lions, British Isles team in their 1896 British Lions tour to South Africa, 1896 tour of South Africa. Magee was capped 27 times for Ireland, ten as captain, and won two Championships, leading Ireland to a Triple Crown (rugby union), Triple Crown win in the 1899 Home Nations Championship. Bernard Jackman
Bernard Jackman (born 5 May 1976) is an Irish former rugby union player who played for Connacht, Leinster and Sale Sharks. At international level, he has also played for Ireland. He released his autobiography, ''Blue Blood'' in 2011. He coached at FC Grenoble from 2011 to 2017, becoming head coach in 2016. He was head coach of Welsh Pro14 side the Dragons from 2017 to 2018 and was head coach of Bective Rangers FC from 2019 to 2024. Since 2018 he has contributed regularly as a rugby analyst and co-commentator for RTÉ Sport, eir Sport, Premier Sports and other media outlets. In 2023 he was appointed Acting Head of High Performance Sport at Horse Sport Ireland in preparation for the 2024 Olympic Games. 1998–99 Ulster Rugby Season
In Ulster Rugby's fourth season since the advent of professionalism, they were champions of the Heineken Cup, and finished second in the IRFU Interprovincial Championship. Harry Williams was appointed as Director of Rugby, signing a three-year full time contract, starting on 1 July when he resigned as principal of Holywood Primary School. A former prop for Malone and Bangor, Williams had coached Bangor to Ulster League and Cup titles in the 1980s. He was Ulster's coach for four years from 1987, and had led them to four unbeaten seasons in the Interprovincial Championship. He was part of the Irish development squad coaching team for their tour of New Zealand in 1993, and was Ireland A coach for three years. Most recently, he was coach of Dublin side Bective Rangers for 18 months, before resigning for family reasons at the end of 1998. Mike Ruddock
Mike Ruddock, OBE (born 5 September 1959) is a Welsh rugby union coach who was later an interim consultant for Ospreys, having previously coached Lansdowne FC. Ruddock was the Director of Rugby at the Worcester Warriors from 2007 to 2010. He was the coach of the Welsh national rugby union team from 2004 until February 2006 and Leinster Coach from 1997 to 2000. He is the father of 3 children. Irish rugby union international Rhys Ruddock, Ciaran Ruddock and Katie Ruddock. Playing career Ruddock was born in Blaina, and played in the back row for his local team, Blaina. He also played for Tredegar and Swansea, making 119 appearances for Swansea and scoring 43 tries. Harry Harbison
Harry Thomas Harbison (born 19 August 1957) is an Irish former rugby union international. A Dublin native, Harbison was a hooker who was capped in eight Tests for Ireland, featuring in the 1984 and 1987 Five Nations Championships. He earned a place on the 1987 Rugby World Cup team but hurt his back during training and had to return home before the opening match against Wales, for which he would have been the starting hooker. Harbison played for University College Dublin RFC while studying for an engineering degree and in 2011 was named on their Team of the Century. Paddy O'Donoghue (rugby)
Paddy O'Donoghue is a former Irish rugby international prop who also represented the Barbarians and was an administrator in Irish rugby. He was educated at CBC Dún Laoghaire (now CBC Monkstown). He played his club rugby for Bective Rangers, winning the Leinster Club Senior Cup in 1955 and 1956. During this time the club was notable for Welsh international Cliff Morgan who lined out at fly half, the club was nicknamed 'Morgan's Rangers' due to his influence. O'Donoghue also played with IRFU president John Lyons, along with internationals Maurice Mortell, Fergus Keogh, Gerry Hardy, Paddy Costello and Bill Mulcahy. O'Donoghue won eleven caps for Ireland between 1955 and 1958, making his debut versus France. Following his retirement, he coached at various levels including his former club. Cliff Morgan
Clifford Isaac Morgan, (7 April 1930 – 29 August 2013) was a Welsh rugby union player who played for Cardiff RFC and earned 29 caps for Wales between 1951 and 1958. After his playing career ended, Morgan made a successful career in broadcasting, both as a commentator and presenter and also as a programme-maker and BBC executive. Rugby career Morgan, born in Trebanog in the Rhondda valley, was from a mining family and joined Cardiff Rugby Club straight from Tonyrefail Grammar School in 1949, playing at fly-half. Blessed with natural balance and strength, together with an astute line-kicking ability and searing acceleration, he quickly made an impact.
