Beauce, France
Beauce () is a natural region in north-central France, located between the rivers Seine and Loire. It comprises the Eure-et-Loir modern-day department and parts of Loiret, Essonne and Loir-et-Cher. The region shared the history of the province of Orléanais and the county of Chartres, which is its sole major city. Beauce is one of France's most productive agricultural areas. The name derives from Latin ''Belsia'' or ''Belsa'', said by Virgilius Maro Grammaticus to be a Gaulish word meaning "grass plain, cultivated plain." It was formerly spelled ''La Beausse''. Beauce (; ) is a historical and traditional region of Quebec, Canada, located south of Quebec City. Most of it is part of the administrative region of Chaudière-Appalaches. It corresponds approximately to the regional county municipalities of Beauce-Sartigan, Beauce-Centre and La Nouvelle-Beauce, and its major communities are Saint-Georges, Sainte-Marie, Beauceville, Saint-Joseph-de-Beauce and Saint-Victor. Name The first record of the name goes back to 1739. Beauce () is a federal electoral district in Quebec, Canada, that has been represented in the House of Commons of Canada since 1867. In 2006, it had a population of 103,617 people, of whom 82,123 were eligible voters. The Beauce riding has the highest percentage of people who answered "Canadian" as their ethnic origin in the 2006 Census (84.0%; multiple responses). It is also the riding with the highest percentage of White people of European descent (99.3%). Geography The riding is located in Central Quebec, to the south of Quebec City and covers the centre of Beauce, straddling the Quebec region of Chaudière-Appalaches. Beauce () was a former provincial electoral district in the Chaudière-Appalaches and Estrie regions of Quebec, Canada. It elected members to the National Assembly of Quebec (earlier known as the Legislative Assembly of Quebec). It was created for the 1867 election, and electoral districts of that name existed even earlier: see Beauce (Province of Canada electoral district) and Beauce (Lower Canada). Beauce-Nord () is a provincial electoral district in the Chaudière-Appalaches region of Quebec, Canada that elects members to the National Assembly of Quebec. It includes notably the municipalities of Sainte-Marie, Saint-Lambert-de-Lauzon, Beauceville, Saint-Joseph-de-Beauce and Saint-Isidore. It was created along with Beauce-Sud for the 1973 election from parts of Beauce. It also took parts from Dorchester and Lévis electoral districts.
