Beatriz Zamora
Beatriz Zamora (born 1935) is a Mexican artist who is best known for her monochrome works in black. Although she has struggled commercially, her work has been recognized at various points in her career such as with membership in the Legion of Honor of the Académie des Beaux-Arts in France and the Sistema Nacional de Creadores de Arte in Mexico. Life Zamora was born in 1935 in Mexico City. She began her artistic studied with muralist José Hernández Delgadillo in 1956, later marrying him and having three children, Beatriz, Francisco and Myriam. From 1964 to 1966, she studied ceramics with José Castaño in Mexico City. From 1967 to 1970, she studied art history at the Instituto de Cultura Superior. In 1972, she went to France to study at the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Through her artistic career, she has struggled commercially. Salón de la Plástica Mexicana (SPM; Hall of Mexican Fine Art) is an institution dedicated to the promotion of Mexican contemporary art. It was established in 1949 to expand the Mexican art market. Its first location was in historic center of the city but today it mostly operates out of a building in Colonia Roma. The institution is run by a membership of almost four hundred recognized artists and holds multiple exhibitions each year. The Palacio de Bellas Artes (Palace of Fine Arts) is a prominent cultural center in Mexico City. It hosts performing arts events, literature events and plastic arts galleries and exhibitions (including important permanent Mexican murals). "Bellas Artes" for short, has been called the "art cathedral of Mexico", and is located on the western side of the historic center of Mexico City which is close to the Alameda Central park. Pollock-Krasner Foundation
The Pollock-Krasner Foundation was established in 1985 for the purpose of providing funding to visual artists internationally to further their artistic practices. It was established at the bequest of Lee Krasner, who was an American abstract expressionist painter and the spouse of fellow painter Jackson Pollock. To date, the foundation has awarded more than 5,000 grants in 79 countries for a total of over $87 million. Activities The foundation provides grants to painters, sculptors, printmakers, and artists who work on paper. Since 1991, the foundation has given out the Lee Krasner Award, in recognition of a lifetime of artistic achievement, and the Pollock Prize for Creativity, given annually to an artist whose work "embodies high creative standards and has a substantial impact on society."
