Beatrhyming is a vocal performance art which involves rapping, singing, or spoken word while simultaneously beatboxing. Beatrhyming is an artform that was popularized by Kid Lucky. Technique The primary technique of beatrhyming is singing or speaking rhyming lyrics while concurrently imitating drum beats with the voice and lips. It can also involve techniques such as vocal scratching the spoken or sung lyrics, making vocal sound effects relevant to the lyrics, and instrument mimicry. It can be improvised, pre-written, or covering a popular song. Early history Kid Lucky began developing the concept for beatrhyming in the early 2000s. Kid Lucky
Terry Lewis (September 15, 1972 – October 23, 2020), also known by his stage name Kid Lucky, was an American beatrhymer, beatboxer, singer-songwriter, teacher, and activist born in New York City. He coined the term "beatrhyming", which he defines as "rapping, singing or performing spoken word while beatboxing simultaneously". Early life Lewis grew up in New York City, and as a child, began scat singing and making sounds with his mouth. His desire to become a performer came from watching the music video of Janet Jackson's hit song "Rhythm Nation". He began writing plays and spoken word poetry, and was motivated to pursue beatboxing after seeing Doug E. Fresh in the movie ''Beat Street''. Kaila Mullady (Musician)
Kaila Mullady (born April 11, 1993) is an American beatboxer, beatrhymer, musician and actress. She won on Beatbox Battle World Championship 2015 & 2018 by category solo female. She is a former member of the Beatbox House crew. Kaila is a current member of the improv rap group '' Freestyle Love Supreme'' under the name Kaizer Roze. Early life Mullady's interest in music and beatboxing began at a young age. She took up guitar at age ten and began beatboxing for parties when she got older. She originally planned on pursuing a career as a teacher, but over time became disinterested in teaching. In 2012 she met award-winning beatboxer J-Flo, and was introduced to the modern beatbox community. Beatbox House
The Beatbox House is an American beatbox crew based in New York City originally consisting of six beatboxers. The Beatbox House has since its formation helped many beatboxers along their journey. Formation The Beatbox House began as a residence home in Brooklyn, New York for beatboxer Chris Celiz and Izzy Freedman who one day had an idea to create a place for beatboxers to connect and socialize. Beatboxers Mark Martin and Johnny Buffalo lived in the house and organized jam sessions and performances for beatboxers. Artists from worldwide locations would lodge in the house when traveling for shows. Soul Inscribed is an American hip hop–fusion band and Beatbox crew from New York City. Formation Soul Inscribed was formed by Baba Israel, who was raised in NYC by parents who were core members of " The Living Theater". He was the co-founder of the Australian hip hop crew Metabass'n'Breath. In 2000 he befriended and began working with future bandmate Yako 440, while on tour with DJ Logic. Baba and Yako then began to work on and release albums together which include, Force of Life, Beatbox Dub Poetics, and Highest Degree.
