Beat The Boots
''Beat the Boots!'' is a box set by Frank Zappa. Released in 1991 through Rhino Entertainment, the set contains legal reissues of eight bootleg recordings made between 1967 and 1982 and originally distributed illegally prior to this official release. A second box set of bootleg recordings, '' Beat the Boots! II'', was released through Rhino in June 1992. Contents ''Beat the Boots!'' was released so that Zappa could reclaim financial and legal ownership of the recordings. By reproducing the exact contents and artwork of bootleg albums without any alterations, Zappa could claim any further reproduction of the recordings as a counterfeit, which would make further unauthorized distribution of his music easier to prosecute. The box set was released in limited vinyl record and cassette tape runs, and the titles were also released as individual compact discs by Rhino Entertainment. A boxed set or (its US name) box set is a set of items (for example, a compilation of books, musical recordings, films or television programs) traditionally packaged in a box, hence 'boxed', and offered for sale as a single unit. Camarillo Brillo
"Camarillo Brillo" is a song by Frank Zappa and The Mothers and was first included on his 1973 LP '' Over-Nite Sensation''. The song's lyrics include many colloquialisms and made-up words. The title itself is a pun; Zappa mispronounces Camarillo, the name of a city in California, to rhyme with brillo, "shining" or "brilliant" in Spanish. The meaning of the song is open to different interpretations. The first two lines state "She had that Camarillo Brillo, flaming out along her head." The "Brillo" could simply refer to a woman's fuzzy or curly hair. It might also refer to hair resembling that of a patient who just underwent shock therapy. The latter would be consistent with the fact that Camarillo was once the site of the Camarillo State Mental Hospital, which operated from 1936 to 1997. "Let's Make the Water Turn Black" is a patter song which first appeared on the 1968 Mothers of Invention album '' We're Only in It for the Money'' and later on the 1995 compilation album '' Strictly Commercial''. Jeffrey Lael Simmons is an American rock musician, best known as a former member of Frank Zappa's Mothers of Invention. Career Simmons provided bass, guitar, vocals and harmonica for The Mothers of Invention during 1970 and 1971. He left the Mothers in early 1971 just prior to the filming of '' 200 Motels'' (where he was replaced by Ringo Starr's chauffeur Martin Lickert). Simmons later returned to the Mothers occasionally during the period of 1972 to 1974. Alan Gordon (songwriter)
Alan Lee Gordon (April 22, 1944 – November 22, 2008) was an American songwriter best known for songs recorded by the Turtles, Petula Clark, and Barbra Streisand. Many of his songs were co-written with Gary Bonner, including the Turtles' " Happy Together" and Three Dog Night's " Celebrate". He worked with various popular musicians, including Blues Magoos, Alice Cooper, the Archies, the O'Jays, Lynn Anderson, Flo & Eddie, Frank Zappa, Helen Reddy, Gary Lewis & the Playboys, Tammy Wynette, the Lovin' Spoonful, Bobby Darin, and Freddy Fender. "Happy Together" is a song written by Garry Bonner and Alan Gordon and recorded by American rock band the Turtles. It was released as a single, backed with (b/w) "Like the Seasons", in January 1967, and peaked at number one on the US ''Billboard'' Hot 100, becoming the band's first and only chart-topper there. It also reached the top 20 in various countries, including number 2 in Canada and number 12 in the UK. It was later included on the Turtles' third studio album ''Happy Together'' (1967).
