Beartooth Basin Ski Area
Beartooth Basin Ski Area is a ski area in the Western United States, western United States in northern Wyoming, located at Beartooth Pass in the Shoshone National Forest near the Montana border. It is the only ski area in North America that is only open in the summer, generally from late May through early July, since U.S. Route 212 (Beartooth Highway) is closed in winter. Opened in 1962, it totals at an elevation of . The north-facing slopes of Beartooth Basin are served by two platter lifts, and there is no day lodge. Parking is alongside the highway at the pass, slightly above the summit of the ski area. Beartooth National Forest
Beartooth National Forest was established in Montana on July 1, 1908 by the U.S. Forest Service with from part of Yellowstone National Forest and all of Pryor Mountains National Forest. On February 17, 1932 the forest was divided between Absaroka National Forest and Custer National Forest and the name preserved as the Beartooth Ranger District of Custer National Forest. A surface lift is a type of cable transport for snow sports in which skiers and snowboarders remain on the ground as they are pulled uphill.
