Beacon Status
Beacon Status was a progressive educational initiative that the United Kingdom implemented based on the idea that organizational learning could be advanced through a competitive process of identifying successful organizations and recruiting them to disseminate their good practices. The beacon status initiative was launched by the Department for Education and Skills (DfES) in partnership with the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) in 1998 and ran through to August 2005 for primary and secondary schools in England and Wales. Beacon Status was for providers funded by the Learning and Skills Council, which are mainly Further Education colleges. The Learning and Skills Improvement Service was still awarding Beacon Status in 2011. The initiative was discontinued due to uncertainty as to whether or not the initiative actually improved Beacon schools. The department was led by Secretary of State for Education and Skills. The DfES had offices at four main locations: London (both at the Sanctuary Buildings and Caxton House), Sheffield (Moorfoot), Darlington (Mowden Hall), and Runcorn (Castle View House). The DfES was also represented in regional Government Offices. The DfES had jurisdiction only in England as education was the responsibility of the Scottish Government, Welsh Assembly Government and the Northern Ireland Assembly. Beacon High Schools In Beijing
Beacon high schools in Beijing () is a system used by the municipal government of Beijing, China to designate model high schools. Traditionally, some high schools in China have been statically designated as "key schools", which are associated with academic prestige and preferential resource allocation. Over the last decade, the municipality has been in the process of changing it into a ''beacon high school'' (示范高中) system, which is subject to specific criteria and periodic reviews. The long-term goal is to establish about 60 "large in scale, well-equipped and high quality" high schools, as examples of excellence. Leading Edge Partnership
The Leading Edge Partnership programme was established in 2003 by the Department for Children, Schools and Families in the United Kingdom. The programme's intention was to encourage Secondary schools in England to work in partnership to solve some problems in education. The programme encouraged schools to work to raise achievement through the sharing of proven ideas, and the lead school in each partnership received £60,000 per year to facilitate this. The Learning and Skills Council (LSC) was a non-departmental public body jointly sponsored by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) and the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) in England.
