Be Mine (novel)
''Be Mine'' is a novel by Richard Ford published in 2023. It is Ford's fifth book to feature Frank Bascombe as the narrator and protagonist. Description ''Be Mine'' is the follow up to the fourth book in the Bascombe cycle: ''Let Me Be Frank With You'' (2014). ''Be Mine'' centres around Frank Bascombe tending to the needs of his son, Paul, who has a deadly motor neurone disease. The novel, which is presumably the final Bascombe book, "explores happiness and denial, completing a social history of Ford's own boomer generation from midlife to end times." Reception The first reviews and appraisals following its publication in June of 2023, seemed to give the novel an appreciative but mixed reception. Richard Ford
Richard Ford (born February 16, 1944) is an American novelist and short story writer. His best-known works are the novel ''The Sportswriter'' and its sequels, ''Independence Day'', '' The Lay of the Land'' and ''Let Me Be Frank With You'', and the short story collection '' Rock Springs'', which contains several widely anthologized stories. Ford received the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1996 for ''Independence Day''. Ford's novel ''Wildlife'' was adapted into a 2018 film of the same name. He won the 2018 Park Kyong-ni Prize. Early life Ford was born in Jackson, Mississippi, the only son of Parker Carrol and Edna Ford. Parker was a traveling salesman for Faultless Starch, a Kansas City company. Background Before the publication of ''Let Me Be Frank With You'', Ford had written three novels with Frank Bascombe as the focal point. Ford referred to these three books as "The Bascombe Novels."
