Baykok
The baykok (or pau'guk, paguk, baguck; ''bakaak'' in the Ojibwe language and ''pakàk'' in the Algonquin language) is a malevolent spirit from the mythology of the Ojibway nation. In traditional culture The Baykok is a character from the Anishinaabe Anishinaabe traditional beliefs#Aadizookaan, ''aadizookaan'' (traditional stories). It is said to fly through the forests of the Great Lakes region. The cries of Baykok are also described as being shrill. Jean-André Cuoq (1821–1898) was a Roman Catholic priest and a philologist in the Algonquin and Mohawk languages. Early life Jean-André Cuoq was born on June 6, 1821, to Jean-Pierre Cuoq and Rosalie Desholme, in Le Puy-en-Velay, France. He entered the ''Company of Saint-Sulpice'' in Paris in 1844. Algonquin Language
