Bawa Andani Yakubu
__NOTOC__ Bawa Andani Yakubu, MV (1926–2002) was a police officer, politician and king. He was an Inspector General of Police in Ghana. He also served in the National Liberation Council (NLC) government. He was the Gushie-Naa or Gushie King until his death. Career He was appointed Commissioner of Police (Administration) and later Inspector General of Police from 3 September 1969 to 12 June 1971. He retired from the Police service after becoming the Gushie Na. Politics While still a Deputy Commissioner in the Ghana Police Force, Yakubu was appointed a member of the NLC military government from 24 February 1966 to 29 August 1969. He was one of four police officers on the NLC. The others were J. W. K. Harlley, the Vice Chairman, Anthony K. Deku, Commissioner of Police (CID) and J. E. O. Inspector General Of Police Of The Ghana Police Service
The Inspector General of Police (IGP) is the most senior Police Officer in Ghana. The IGP is appointed by the president of Ghana acting in consultation with the Council of State. The IGP is the head of the Police service and is responsible for the operational control and the administration of the Police Service. The IGP is a member of the Police Council. The first Ghanaian Police Commissioner, E. R. T. Madjitey was appointed to head the service on October 9, 1958. The IGP is aided by two deputies as well as nine directors and a Chief Staff Officer. Following the retirement of B. A. Yakubu as the head of the Police service, the Progress Party government of Kofi Abrefa Busia appointed R. D. Ampaw, a lawyer civil servant as his successor. Yakubu II
Yaa Naa Yakubu Andani II (1945–2002) was the King of Dagbon, the traditional kingdom of the Dagomba people in northern Ghana, from 31 May 1974 until his assassination on 27 March 2002. He was born in August 1945 in Sagnarigu, a suburb of Tamale in the Northern Region of Ghana. Yakubu II was killed on 27 March 2002 at Yendi, the capital of the Kingdom of Dagbon, by unknown people when clashes broke out between the two feuding Gates of Dagbon Kingship. For 600 years the Abudu and Andani clans, named after two sons of the ancient Dagbon king Ya Naa Yakubu I, cordially rotated control of the kingdom centred in Yendi, north of Accra, the capital of Ghana.
