Battlestars (game Show)
''Battlestars'' is an American game show that aired on NBC during the 1980s. The program's concept was developed and produced by Merrill Heatter, featuring a six-celebrity panel. The object of the game is to "capture" the celebrities by lighting up numbers positioned around triangle shapes, inside of which sat each panelist. Similar to ''Hollywood Squares'', which Heatter also co-created and produced, the celebrities are asked questions by the host, and the contestants judge the truth of their answers in order to light up the numbers. The show premiered on October 26, 1981, with Alex Trebek hosting and Rod Roddy serving as the announcer. This marked Heatter's first solo production since his former production partner, Bob Quigley, retired and their company was dissolved. The program ran until April 23, 1982. Merrill Heatter
Merrill Gabriel Heatter (December 16, 1925 – October 8, 2017) was an American television producer and writer. He was best known for his collaboration with writer Bob Quigley for over 20 years and the formation of their production company Heatter-Quigley Productions in 1960. The company was responsible for the game shows ''Hollywood Squares'' and ''Gambit (game show), Gambit'' and the animated television series ''Wacky Races (1968 TV series), Wacky Races''. He also formed Heatter-Quigley Productions#Titles by Merrill Heatter Productions, Merrill Heatter Productions in 1980, which is responsible for the ''Gambit''-based show ''Catch 21''. Early life Heatter was born in New York City, the son of Frances and Edward Heatter. His paternal grandparents were Jewish immigrants from Austria. ''Password Plus'' and ''Super Password'' are American TV game shows that aired separately between 1979 and 1989. Both shows were revivals of ''Password'', which originally ran from 1961 to 1975 in various incarnations. With only subtle differences between them, both ''Password Plus'' and ''Super Password'' retained the format of play as their predecessor, with two teams of two people each—a celebrity and a contestant—attempting to guess a mystery word using only one-word clues. ''Go'' is an American television game show created by Bob Stewart and aired on NBC from October 3, 1983, to January 20, 1984. The show featured two teams; each composed of four contestants and a celebrity. The teams had to construct questions one word at a time to convey a word or phrase to their teammates. The concept of ''Go'' was based on "Instant Reaction", an endgame played on two different iterations of another game show created by Bob Stewart, ''Chain Reaction'', in 1980 on NBC and from 2006–07 on GSN. Los Angeles and Buffalo meteorologist Kevin O'Connell was the show's host, and Johnny Gilbert was the announcer, with Jack Clark substituting for him during November 1983.
