Battle Of The Saints (Colombo)
The Battle of the Saints is the annual cricket contest between St. Joseph's College and St Peter's College in Colombo, Sri Lanka, which typically takes place in March. Inaugurated in 1933 by the Rectors of both schools and has since become a highly anticipated event, attracting significant media coverage and enthusiastic supporters. Since 2016, which is the 82nd encounter, both teams compete for the Reverend Father Maurice Legoc Trophy, named after the tournament's founder. For the past 82 matches, St. Joseph's college have recorded 12 wins, while the Peterites have registered 10. The rest of the matches have ended up as a draw with no wins for either team. In 2008 St. Joseph's college won the match, which ended a 35-year drought, and in 2010 St. Peter's won the match after 32 years. H I K Fernando
Herbert Innocent Kingsley Fernando (born 4 January 1933) is a former cricketer who was Ceylon's principal wicket-keeper from 1953 to 1970. He was also a doctor and a brigadier in the Sri Lanka Army. Life and career Born in Jaffna, Herbert Fernando attended St Peter's College, Colombo, where he captained the cricket team in 1951 and 1952 and was schoolboy cricketer of the year in 1952. He went on to the University of Ceylon, graduating as a doctor in 1961. A wicketkeeper-batsman, he made his first-class debut in the inaugural Gopalan Trophy match in February 1953. Kongala Liyanage Janith Vimukthi (born 12 July 1995), is a professional Sri Lankan cricketer who currently plays limited overs cricket for the national team. Andri Raffaelo Berenger (; born 29 August 1991) is a Sri Lankan cricketer. He is a right-handed batsman who has played for the United Arab Emirates and for Qatar. Personal life Berenger was born in Colombo on 29 August 1991. His father Kenham Berenger was a Sri Lankan boxing champion. He grew up in the UAE where his parents were expatriate workers. Angelo Perera
Angelo Kanishka Perera (born 23 February 1990), or Angelo Perera, is a former professional cricketer, who played limited over cricket for Sri Lanka. He is a right-handed batsman and left-arm slow bowler who plays for Nondescripts Cricket Club. He was born in Moratuwa and attended to St Peter's College, Colombo. In 2019, he became only the second batsman after Arthur Fagg to score double centuries in both innings of any first class match. Kaushal Samaraweera Lokuarachchi (born 20 May 1982), or Kaushal Lokuarachchi, is a former Sri Lankan cricketer, who played all formats. He is a right-handed batsman and a leg-break bowler. Russel Premakumaran Arnold (; born 25 October 1973), or Russel Arnold, is a former Sri Lankan cricketer of Tamil descent, who played all forms of the game. He played as the finisher role in the Sri Lankan team batting down the order at international level. Arnold currently works as an international commentator. Sampathwaduge Amal Rohitha Silva (born 12 December 1960) is a former Sri Lankan cricketer who played in nine Test matches and 20 One Day Internationals from 1983 to 1988. Rumesh Joseph Ratnayake (born 2 January 1964), is a former Sri Lankan cricketer who played in 23 Test matches and 70 One Day Internationals from 1982 to 1993. Tony Opatha
Antony Ralph Marinon Opatha (5 August 1947 – 11 September 2020) was a Sri Lankan cricketer. A right-arm medium pace bowler, he played five One Day Internationals at the 1975 and 1979 Cricket World Cups. Educated at St. Peter's College, Colombo, Opatha joined the Royal Ceylon Volunteer Air Force in 1968. He had played for his college cricket team and went on to play for the air force cricket team until 1977. He first played for Ceylon in 1971 and was a member of the Sri Lankan teams in the World Cups in England in 1975 and 1979. He later played club cricket in Ireland for one season in 1979 and was offered the post of coach of the Holland team. Vinothen Bede John (born 27 May 1960) is a former Sri Lankan cricketer who played in six Test matches and 45 One Day Internationals between 1982 and 1987.
