Battle Of Abinsk
The Battle of Abinsk was a significant military engagement during the Russo-Circassian War, fought in 1834 between the combined forces of Circassian leaders Tuquzhuqo Kizbech and Hawduqo Mansur against the Russian Empire. The Russo-Circassian War, also known as the Russian invasion of Circassia, was the 101-year-long invasion of Circassia by the Russian Empire. The conflict started in 1763 ( O.S.) with Russia assuming authority in Circassia, followed by Circassian refusal, and ended with the last army of Circassia defeated on 21 May 1864 (O.S.). Shapsugs
The Shapsug ( , , , , ) (also known as the Shapsugh or Shapsogh) are one of the twelve major Circassian tribes. Historically, the Shapsug tribe comprised one of the largest groups of the Black Sea Adyghe (Причерноморские адыги). They inhabited the region between the Dzhubga (in means "Winds" or "The Valley of Winds") River and the Shakhe Rivers (the so-called Maly Shapsug, or Little Shapsug) and high-altitude mountainous areas of the northern slopes of the Caucasus range along the Antkhir, Abin, Afips, Bakan, Ships, and other rivers (Bolshoy Shapsug, or Greater Shapsug). In Russia, the remaining Shapsug population mainly live in the Tuapsinsky District (Tuapse) of Krasnodar Krai, Lazarevsky City District of Sochi, and in the Republic of Adygea (mainly in District of Takhtamukaysky and District of Teuchezksky), which were a small part of historical Circassia. James Bell (adventurer)
James Stanislaus Bell (9 January 1797 – 10 March 1858) was a British adventurer and writer who participated in the Russo-Circassian War on the side of the Circassians. Bell was involved in a case against Russia known as the Mission of the Vixen. He was the owner of a ship that was detained by the Russian coast guard, so he remained in Circassia from 1838 to 1839. Under the guise of establishing commercial relations, he was aiding the resistance of the Circassians against the Russian Empire.
