Battle Of Esc-Scebb
The Battle of Esc-Scèbb, also known as the Battle of the Esc-Scèbb wells, was fought on 8 December 1913 in the fields north of Esc-Scebb, between the departments of the ''Regio Esercito'', commanded by lieutenant and the Libyan guerrillas of Mohammed ben Abdallah. The battle can be classified as part of the First phase of the Italian colonization of Libya. Background In August 1913, a military expedition composed of 1,100 men (only 108 nationals, and the rest colonial), 4 70/15 Mod. 1902 mountain guns, 4 Vickers machine guns, 4 light trucks and 1,765 camels, commanded by Lieutenant , left Sirte heading towards Socna. Pietro Bertolini
Pietro Bertolini (24 July 1859 Montebelluna – 28 November 1920 Torino) was an Italian statesman. He was the first Italian minister of colonies. Biography Bertolini began his career as a barrister and student of economic and administrative questions, became mayor of Montebelluna in 1885 and entered parliament in 1891 as member for Montebelluna. Two years later, he became Under-Secretary for Finance in the Crispi cabinet. He was afterwards Under-Secretary at the Ministry of the Interior in the Pelloux cabinet (1898–1900), in which he was, so to speak, the representative of Baron Sonnino's party. On the fall of Gen. Pelloux he hoped to return to office in a future Sonnino ministry; but as the latter seemed ever less likely to become a reality, Bertolini lost patience and joined Sig. Giolitti.
