Bastelicaccia
Bastelicaccia (; Corsican: ''A Bastirgaccia'') is a commune in the Corse-du-Sud department of France on the island of Corsica. The inhabitants of the commune are known as ''Bastilcacci'' or ''Bastelicacciais'' and ''Bastelicacciaises''. Geography Bastelicaccia is to the east of the centre of Ajaccio and immediately to the east of Ajaccio Napoleon Bonaparte Airport. It was created in 1865 between the rivers Gravona and Prunelli. The highest point in the commune is Monte Aragnasco. Access to the commune is by Route nationale N196 which passes through the south of the commune from the airport in the west to Cauro in the east. The D3 branches off the N196 at the south-western edge of the commune and goes north-east through the commune to Ocana. Access to the village is by the D303 which branches from the D3 in the commune and goes north to the village then continues north to join the D1 west of Cuttoli-Corticchiato. Ajaccio
Ajaccio (, , ; French language, French: ; or ; , locally: ; ) is the capital and largest city of Corsica, France. It forms a communes of France, French commune, prefecture of the Departments of France, department of Corse-du-Sud, and head office of the ''Territorial collectivity, Collectivité territoriale de Corse'' (capital city of Corsica). It is also the largest settlement on the island. Ajaccio is located on the west coast of the island of Corsica, southeast of Marseille. The original city went into decline in the Middle Ages, but began to prosper again after the Republic of Genoa, Genoese built a citadel in 1492, to the south of the earlier settlement. After the Corsican Republic was declared in 1755, the Genoese continued to hold several citadels, including Ajaccio, until the French conquest of Corsica, French took control of the island. Prunelli
The Prunelli is a small coastal river in the department of Corse-du-Sud, Corsica, France. It flows into the Golfe d'Ajaccio on the Mediterranean Sea. Course The Prunelli is long. It crosses the communes of Ajaccio, Bastelica, Bastelicaccia, Cauro, Eccica-Suarella, Grosseto-Prugna, Ocana, Corse-du-Sud, Ocana and Tolla, Corse-du-Sud, Tolla. The Prunelli originates in Lac de Bracca to the northeast of the Punta Capanella and southeast of the Punta alla Vetta. It flows east, then turns to a southwest direction, flows through Lac de Vitalaca and continues past Bastelica. The Prunelli is joined by the Ese river to the east of Tolla. The Ese is crossed by the magnificent Zipitoli Genoa, Genoese bridge near its confluence with the Prunelli. To the south of Tolla the river is dammed to form the Lac de Tolla. Afa, Corse-du-Sud
Afa (), (), , is a commune in the Corse-du-Sud department on the island and collectivity of Corsica, France. Geography Afa town is a small town about north-east of Ajaccio, located north-west of the Gravona valley. Highway N194 forms the southern border of the commune and gives access to the town of Baleone. To access Afa from Ajaccio it is necessary to take the turn-off from Highway N194 to Highway D81 heading north to the intersection of Highway D161, which highway leads east into Afa village. Road D161 continues west through the canton to join Highway N193 forming an access road from the eastern side. There is also the D5 road giving access to Afa from ''Pratu Tondu'' in the east. Corse-du-Sud (; , or ; ) is (as of 2019) an administrative department of France, consisting of the southern part of the island of Corsica. The corresponding departmental territorial collectivity merged with that of Haute-Corse on 1 January 2018, forming the single territorial collectivity of Corsica, with territorial elections coinciding with the dissolution of the separate council. Alata, Corse-du-Sud
Alata () is a commune in the Corse-du-Sud department, on the French island of Corsica. It is within the metropolitan area of the capital Ajaccio. Geography Alata is 7 km north of the city of Ajaccio and the village is at an altitude of 400m. Alata borders the sea in the Gulf of Lava which is in the Gulf of Sagone. The geographic boundaries of the town are between the ''Monte Gozzi'', the ''Gulf of Lava'', ''La Punta - Pozzo di Borgo'', ''Ajaccio'', ''Villanova'', ''Appietto'' and ''Afa'' (neighbouring communes) with its 3250 hectares of scrub and large forests of oak. Pietrosella (; ) is a French commune in the department of Corse-du-Sud, on the island of Corsica. History On 6 September 1997, members of the National Liberation Front of Corsica stormed a gendarmerie barracks at Pietrosella. The weapons stolen from the attack were used to assassinate Claude Érignac on 6 February 1998, homicide committed by Yvan Colonna who was arrested and sentenced to life imprisonment.
