Bassa People (Cameroon)
The Bassa (also spelled Basa or Basaa and sometimes known as Bassa-Bakongo) are a Bantu peoples, Bantu ethnic group in Cameroon. They number approximately 800,000 individuals. The Bassa speak the Basaa language. Ethnonym Depending on the sources, we can encounter multiple variations of the ethnonym: Basaa, Bassa, Betjek, Bikyek. The term Bassa is the plural of ''nsa'' which can be translated as sharing or remuneration. Legend has it that an argument took place between the sons of a common Bassa ancestor called Mban. This dispute concerned the sharing of a game after returning from hunting to the village, it was a snake. At the end of this dispute, the protagonists were nicknamed Bassa, which translates as “the kidnappers”. However, the oldest term Bassa comes to us from Egypt under the term ''Umm Usuda''. Bassa Cove Colony
Buchanan (), also previously known as Grand Bassa on some maps, is the third largest city in Liberia, lying on Waterhouse Bay, part of the Atlantic Ocean. As of the 2008 census, Buchanan had a population of 34,270. Of this, 16,984 were male and 17,286 female. Named for Thomas Buchanan, cousin of U.S. president James Buchanan, and second governor of Liberia, it is also the capital of Grand Bassa County and lies southeast of Monrovia, near the mouth of the Saint John River. The town was a refuge during the First Liberian Civil War, as it largely escaped the fighting. Fishing is an important industry in the town. The town also has isolated beaches and lagoons. Until 2020, it exclusively represented Cabin Crew on Eurofleet and Worldwide fleets at London Heathrow airport. However, since the merger of all the fleets into the Heathrow Cabin Crew Team, they've become the largest Cabin Crew Union at Heathrow Airport with 90% of eligible crew. Originally part of the Transport and General Workers' Union (TGWU), set-up after the Cabin Crew 89 breakaway, BASSA is now part of Unite the Union. al-Bassa () was a Palestinians, Palestinian Arab village in the Mandatory Palestine's Acre Subdistrict, Mandatory Palestine, Acre Subdistrict. Basaa (also spelled ''Bassa, Basa, Bissa''), or Mbene, is a Bantu language spoken in Cameroon by the Basaa people. It is spoken by about 300,000 people in the Centre and Littoral regions. Maho (2009) lists North and South Kogo as dialects. Background and Origin Basaa is spoken by 230,000 speakers. They live in Nyong-et-Kelle (Central Region) and Sanaga Maritime (with the exception of the Edéa commune, which has a Bakoko majority) and most of Nkam commune ( Littoral Region).
