Basque Culinary World Prize
The Basque Culinary World Prize is an annual global award co-founded by the Basque Government and the Basque Culinary Center in 2016. A prize of €100,000 is granted to a chef whose work has a wider socio-economic benefit. The winner is to use the prize to devote to a project of their choice that demonstrates the wider role of gastronomy in society. The award is open to anyone with a professional background in cooking– regardless of their culinary culture or nationality– and whose work has made an impact in the fields such as innovation, technology, education, the environment, health, the food industry and social and economic development. Basque Government
The Basque Government ( eu, Eusko Jaurlaritza, es, Gobierno Vasco) is the governing body of the Basque Autonomous Community of Spain. The head of the Basque government is known as the '' Lehendakari''. The Lehendakari is appointed by the Basque Parliament every four years, after a regional election. Its headquarters are located in the Lakua district of Vitoria-Gasteiz in Álava. The first Basque Government was created after the approval of the first Basque Statute of Autonomy on 1 October 1936, in the midst of the Spanish Civil War. Ebru Demir (née: Baybara; born 1976) is a Turkish social entrepreneur and chef. She has involved in many projects targeting women and biodiversity. Biography She was born in Mardin in 1976 and was raised in Istanbul. She graduated from Marmara University receiving a degree in tourism in 1999. Following her graduation she settled in Mardin where she worked as a tourist guide. In 2001 she opened a touristic restaurant, Cercis Murat Mansion (Turkish:Cercis Murat Konağı), in Mardin together with 21 women. She also established another restaurant in Mardin named Zamarot 1890. World Central Kitchen
World Central Kitchen (WCK) is a not-for-profit non-governmental organization devoted to providing meals in the wake of natural disasters. Founded in 2010 by chef José Andrés, the organization prepared food in Haiti following its devastating earthquake. Its method of operations is to be a first responder and then to collaborate and galvanize solutions with local chefs to solve the problem of hunger, immediately following a disaster.
