Baso (village)
Baso is a village in Agam Regency, West Sumatra, Indonesia. It is part of the nagari (settlement) of Tabek Panjang, in the kecamatan (sub-district) of Baso, located between the cities of Bukittinggi (15 km) and Payakumbuh. History Baso was the transit and junction town of Payakumbuh, Bukittinggi and Batusangkar. It was known also as the most important farmers' trading and crops collection point in West Sumatra. The Dutch built railway stations, markets, and other supporting facilities like post offices and banks, as well as one of the biggest teacher training schools in West Sumatra, run by PGRI, the National Teachers' Association of Indonesia. In the early 1970s, as automobiles replaced steam train and horse wagon transport in Sumatra, Baso slowly lost its strategic position as a transit point. Agam Regency
Agam Regency ( id, Kabupaten Agam) is a regency of West Sumatra, Indonesia. It has an area of 2,264.89 km2 and had a population of 454,853 at the 2010 census and 529,138 at the 2020 census.Badan Pusat Statistik, Jakarta, 2021. The regency seat is the town of Lubuk Basung. Bukittinggi city is surrounded by this regency but is not administratively included in it. Nagari (settlement)
A nagari is a semi-autonomous Minangkabau people regional administrative unit in West Sumatra, Indonesia. From 1983-1999 the national government attempted to apply the Javanese ''desa'' village system to other ethnic groups throughout Indonesia, and in 1983 the traditional Minangkabau ''nagari'' village units were split into smaller ''jorong'' units, with some disruption to traditional nagari-centred social and cultural institutions. However following restoration of the role of the ''nagari'' in rural Minangkabau society after 1999 residence and employment in a ''nagari'' is still an aspect of social identity, just as residence in the smaller ''jorong'', or membership of a clan. Bukittinggi
Bukittinggi ( min, Bukiktinggi, Jawi: , formerly nl, Fort de Kock) is the third largest city in West Sumatra, Indonesia, with a population of 111,312 in 2010 and 121,028 in 2020, and an area of 25.24 km2. It is in the Minangkabau Highlands, 90 km by road from the West Sumatran capital city of Padang. Payakumbuh
Payakumbuh (Indonesian: Kota Payakumbuh, Minangkabau: Payokumbuah, Jawi: ) is the second largest city in West Sumatra province, Indonesia, with a population of 116,825 at the 2010 Census and 139,576 at the 2020 Census. It covers an area of 80.43 km² and is in the Minangkabau Highlands, 120 km by road from the West Sumatran capital city of Padang and 180 km from the Riau capital city of Pekanbaru.
