Basketball was one of the many sports which was held at the 1998 Asian Games in Bangkok, Thailand between 8 December and 19 December 1998. China again swept all their assignments en route to their 5th title in the men's tournament, while Japan notched their 2nd title after thrashing China in the women's final. Thammasat Stadium
Thammasat Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in the city of Rangsit, Thailand, Rangsit, Pathum Thani Province, Pathum Thani, Thailand. It is currently used mostly for football (soccer), football matches. The stadium holds 25,000. It is on Thammasat University's Rangsit, Thailand, Rangsit campus. It is located close to Bangkok. History It was built for the 1998 Asian Games by construction firm Christiani & Nielsen. Its appearance resembles a scaled-down version of Rajamangala Stadium. The tribunes form a continuous ring that is quite low behind each goal but rises up on each side. Unlike Rajamangala though, Thammasat has a roof covering both side tribunes. Most striking about this stadium are the floodlights. Thai architects usually favor concrete pylons but these are the steel variety. Johnny Abarrientos
Johnny Abarrientos (born July 17, 1970) is a Filipino retired professional basketball player in the Philippine Basketball Association. He was also a many-time member of the Philippine National team, and was the 1996 PBA Most Valuable Player, becoming the shortest player to win the league's highest individual award. He is known by many as The Flying A when he started playing for the Alaska Milkmen in 1993. He is currently an assistant coach for the Magnolia Chicken Timplados Hotshots and for the FEU Tamaraws. Amateur career Abarrientos began his basketball career in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines for the Far Eastern University Tamaraws alongside future pro Victor Pablo and led the Tamaraws to two UAAP crowns in 1991 and 1992. Moon Kyung-eun (born August 27, 1971) is a former South Korean male professional basketball player and basketball coach. He was part of the team at the 1994 Asian Games, 1996 Summer Olympics, 1998 Asian Games and the 2002 Asian Games. From 2012 to 2021 he was head coach of the Korean Basketball League team, the Seoul SK Knights. Lee Sang-min (born 11 November 1972) is a South Korean retired professional basketball player and basketball coach. He was part of the team at the 1994 Asian Games, 1996 Summer Olympics, 1998 Asian Games and 2002 Asian Games. Early years Lee enjoyed playing various sports from a young age and began focusing on basketball in high school. He attended Hongik University High School in Seoul. Kim Joo-sung (; born 9 November 1979) is a South Korean basketball coach and retired player. A forward-center, he spent his entire sixteen-year playing career with Wonju DB Promy. Since 2019 he has been a coach at Wonju DB Promy. Early life A native of Busan, Kim grew up in the district of Haeundae-gu. Kim only began focusing on basketball in high school, relatively late compared to many of his KBL peers. His younger sister Kim Hyang-ran is a former volleyball player. Kang Dong-hee (born 20 December 1966) is a South Korean former basketball player and coach. He competed in the men's tournament at the 1996 Summer Olympics. In his prime, Kang was regarded as the best domestic point guard of his generation and was nicknamed "Wizard of the Court" (코트의 마법사). Early life Kang spent his schooling years in Incheon and was first introduced to basketball in elementary school but stopped playing for a number of years due to his short stature. His interest was reignited when some soldiers from the nearby military base visited his middle school and played basketball with the students. Jung Jae-kun (born 23 July 1969) is a South Korean retired basketball player. His playing career spanned thirteen years and coincided with the founding of the all-professional Korean Basketball League.
