''Basketball (and Other Things): A Collection of Questions Asked, Answered, Illustrated'' is a 2017 book written by Shea Serrano and illustrated by Arturo Torres, with a foreword from former NBA star Reggie Miller. Development and publication history ''Basketball (and Other Things)'' was published by Abrams Image on October 10, 2017. It is the second collaboration between Serrano and Torres, following their 2015 ''New York Times'' best-seller ''The Rap Year Book''. ''Basketball (and Other Things)'' shares a title with a previous email newsletter from Serrano and Torres; begun in March 2016, the newsletter had over 30,000 subscribers as of May 2016. When pre-sales opened on Amazon for ''Basketball (and Other Things)'' in February 2017, the book hit number 13 on the site's bestseller list. Shea Serrano (born 1981) is an American author, journalist, humorist, and former teacher. He is best known for his work with the sports and pop culture websites, ''The Ringer (website), The Ringer'' and ''Grantland'', as well as his books, including ''The Rap Year Book'', ''Basketball (and Other Things)'' and ''Movies (and Other Things)'', all of which were ''The New York Times'' #1 best-sellers. Robert Jerry Lanier Jr. (September 10, 1948 – May 10, 2022) was an American professional basketball player. He played center (basketball), center for the Detroit Pistons and the Milwaukee Bucks of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Robert Joseph Cousy ( , born August 9, 1928) is an American former professional basketball player. He played point guard for the Boston Celtics from 1950 to 1963, and briefly with the Cincinnati Royals during the 1969–70 season. John Stockton
John Houston Stockton (born March 26, 1962) is an American former professional basketball player. Regarded as one of the great point guards of all time, he spent his entire NBA career (1984–2003) with the Utah Jazz, and the team made the playoffs in all of his 19 seasons. Pete Maravich
Peter Press Maravich ( ; June 22, 1947 – January 5, 1988), known by his nickname Pistol Pete, was an American professional basketball player. He starred in college at Louisiana State University's Tigers basketball team; his father, Press Maravich, was the team's head coach. Maravich is the all-time leading NCAA Division I men's scorer with 3,667 points scored and an average of 44.2 points per game. All of his accomplishments were achieved before the adoption of the three-point line and shot clock, and despite being unable to play varsity as a freshman under then-NCAA rules. Maravich was selected by the Atlanta Hawks in the 1970 NBA draft, playing four seasons for the team.
