Basgal Castle
Basgal Castle is a medieval fortress located in the Basgal settlement of Azerbaijan. It is considered the largest fortress discovered in Azerbaijan in terms of its area and the length of its walls. In October 2019, the Basgal archaeological expedition of the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences conducted excavations in the area. They uncovered fortress walls, a stone-paved sidewalk, a kiln, fortress towers, and the Western Gate of the fortress. Description There are various opinions regarding the origin of the "Basgal" toponym. According to academician Ziya Bunyadov, "Basgal" is a Turkic word meaning "top of the fortress," "build a fortress," "create a fortress," "raise a fortress," or "main fortress." Some researchers suggest that the toponym "Basgal" originates from the word "Pəsqala" (meaning "hidden fortress"). Sheikh Muhammad Mosque
The Sheikh Muhammad Mosque (), is a former mosque and historical architectural monument, located in the Basqal State Historical-Cultural Reserve in the Ismayilli District of Azerbaijan. Completed in 1531, the former mosque has been partially restored. About The Sheikh Muhammad Mosque was built in 1531 under the orders of Pir Muhammad, the son of Sufi Dervish Ali. The mosque is located in the Kələküçə neighborhood of Basqal. A madrasa operated in the mosque's courtyard. After the Soviet occupation in Azerbaijan, the official campaign against religion began in 1928. In December of that year, the Central Committee of the Azerbaijan Communist Party transferred many mosques, churches, and synagogues to the balance of clubs for educational purposes. Haji Badal Mosque
The Haji Badal Mosque (; ) is a mosque and historical architectural monument, located in the "Basqal" State Historical-Cultural Reserve in Azerbaijan. Completed in 1854, the mosque was included in the list of local importance immovable historical and cultural monuments by the 132nd decision of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan on August 2, 2001. History The Haji Badal Mosque was built in 1854 in the Demirchibazar neighborhood of the Basqal settlement. The mosque was commissioned by Haji Badal Mashadi agha oghlu. Haji Badal, from the Goshabulaq neighborhood of Basqal, constructed the mosque in honor of his daughter, Sitarə. The construction work was supervised by builders Allahi and Mashadi Sattar. The mosque's courtyard also contains a mausoleum that contains the remains of Seyid Ümbülbanu, who was descended from Imam Jafar al-Sadiq (a.s).
