The main ruling organization regarding baseball in Spain is the Royal Spanish Baseball and Softball Federation (). History Baseball began relatively early in Spain thanks to the descendants of immigrants from Cuba. They brought the sport along with them when Cuba ceased to be a Spanish colony. The heyday of baseball in Spain was in the 1950s and 1960s. Owing to growing mass interest in association football, football, many baseball clubs didn't survive into the 1970s. The Spanish public's massive shift in focus was largely triggered by the introduction of multiple TV channels that focused mainly on broadcasting the football matches of La Liga, the professional First Division Spanish League. Baseball In Cuba
Baseball was popularized in Cuba by Nemesio Guillot, who founded the first major baseball club in the country. It became the most played sport in the country in the 1870s, before the period of American intervention. Pops Club De Beisbol
Pops Club de Béisbol (from the Catalan word for "octopuses") was a Spanish baseball club in Lloret de Mar, Catalonia, where there were many descendants of immigrants from Cuba. Its founders were Nasi Brugueras and Alex Colomer from Barcelona, and its sponsor and president was Roque Romero, a stockbroker born in Mendavia, Navarre. Roque Romero remained as president of the Pops club until its demise and for a while also became chairman of the Catalan Baseball Federation. This now defunct baseball club was active during the heyday of baseball in Spain in the 1950s and 1960s. But owing to mass-interest in football, Pops baseball club did not survive into the 1970s and its field was converted into a field for the local football team. CB Viladecans
Club Béisbol Viladecans is a División de Honor de Béisbol baseball club in Viladecans, Catalonia, Spain. It was founded in 1945 and was one of the most active teams during the heyday of baseball in Spain in the 1950s and 1960s. Club Beisbol Viladecans was one of the few teams that survived the difficult times of the late 1960s and 1970s, when mass-interest in football compromised the viability of other local baseball clubs.
