Basant Bahar (raga)
Basant or Vasant is a Hindustani classical raga. Raga Every raga has a strict set of rules which govern the number of notes that can be used; which notes can be used; and their interplay that has to be adhered to for the composition of a tune. In the Guru Granth Sahib Ji, there are a total of 60 raga compositions and this raga is the forty-ninth raga to appear in the series. The composition in this raga appear on a total of 29 pages from page numbers (Ang) 1168 to 1170. Basant denotes the changing of the season and the newness of spring. This Raag encourages the mind to brush away its selfishness, just like spring-cleaning removes all the cobwebs and creates a fresh start. There are feelings of hope and expectation of a new beginning and the start of a new cycle. Purvi or poorvi is one of the ten basic thaats of Hindustani music from the Indian subcontinent. It is also the name of a raga within this thaat A ''thaat'' () is a "parent scale" in North Indian or Hindustani music. Mangalampalli Balamuralikrishna (né Muralikrishna; 6 July 1930 – 22 November 2016) was an Indian Carnatic vocalist, musician, multi-instrumentalist, playback singer, composer, and character actor. He was awarded the Madras Music Academy's Sangeetha Kalanidhi in 1978. Vijaya Bhaskar (; 1924 – 3 March 2002) was an Indian music director and composer who composed music for several mainstream and experimental feature films in the Kannada film industry. Scoring music for over 720 films, Bhaskar worked in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Marathi, Tulu and Konkani language films as well. He had a noted association with directors including KSL Swamy (Ravi), Puttanna Kanagal, Adoor Gopalakrishnan and a long association with singers including P. Susheela and Vani Jairam. Devendran also known as Ravi Devendran is an Indian music composer who works in Tamil-language films. He is known for the melodious composition of chartbuster ''Kannukkul Nooru Nilava...'' from the Bharathiraja directed film ''Vedham Pudhithu'' released in the year 1987. Early life Devendran was born and raised in Vadakarai. He studied Carnatic, Hindustani and Western music. Career Devendran began his career as a music teacher at a Tiruvottiyur school. Once when director R. Sundarrajan came as the chief guest for an event there, he was impressed with a song performed by the students, which was composed by Devendran, and announced at the event that he would be the composer of his next directorial. ''Vedham Pudhithu'' ( ) is a 1987 Indian Tamil-language drama film directed and co-written by Bharathiraja. It is based on the play ''Saadhigal Illaiyadi Papa'' by K.
