Baruch Podolsky
Baruch (Boris Semyonovich) Podolsky (; 18 February 1940 – 21 February 2011) was an Israeli linguist, lexicographer, television and radio presenter, teacher, and leading expert in the field of Hebrew and Semitic languages. He was the author of a number of popular Hebrew dictionaries and science books. Biography Podolsky was born in Moscow on 18 February 1940. His mother, Dora Borisovna Kustanovich, graduated from the Jewish Pedagogical College and Moscow Pedagogical Institute. After the faculty was closed, she worked as a teacher of Russian language and literature. His father, Semyon Moiseevich Podolsky, graduated from the history department of MSU and taught high school history. Between 1941 and 1944, the family lived in Southern Urals in the city of Orske, in 1944 he returned to Moscow. Hebrew (; ''ʿÎbrit'') is a Northwest Semitic languages, Northwest Semitic language within the Afroasiatic languages, Afroasiatic language family. A regional dialect of the Canaanite languages, it was natively spoken by the Israelites and remained in regular use as a first language until after 200 CE and as the Sacred language, liturgical language of Judaism (since the Second Temple period) and Samaritanism. Channel 9 ( rus, 9 канал, p=ˈdʲevʲɪtʲ kɐˈnaɫ) is a television station in Israel, formerly known as Israel Plus (). It primarily broadcasts in the Russian language usually with Hebrew subtitles. It also broadcasts some shows in Hebrew with Russian subtitles. History In September 2001, Africa Israel Investments, a financial group headed by Lev Avnerovich Leviev, Lev Leviev won the tender for the creation of Israel TV channel in Russian. Established in November 2002, the channel's first CEO was Yulia Shamalov-Berkovich, who led the company until February 2004. The station began broadcasting on 12 November 2002. In May 2013, Israeli-Russian businessman Alexander Levin purchased control of the channel for NIS 6 million. The channel is aimed at the one million plus Russian speakers who have aliyah, immigrated to the country since 1990.
