Barton Peveril College
Barton Peveril Sixth Form College is an Ofsted 'Outstanding' sixth form college located in Eastleigh, Hampshire, UK with approximately 5,000 students, aged 16–18. It is part of the Wessex Group of Sixth Form Colleges. History Originally Barton Peveril School was a temporary school, founded in 1904 by the local County Education Authority, to meet the demands of the new railway town of Eastleigh. It had two long-serving head teachers, with Miss Annie Smith at the reins from the start until her retirement in 1936 and then Mr Harry Newnham Reed Moore (1897–1991), who again only left to retire in 1963. He was succeeded by Mr R. E. Bowyer. As the school expanded, larger premises were required, with a house named ''Barton Peveril'' purchased by 1918, which later gave its name to the institution officially recognised as Eastleigh County Secondary School, Barton Peveril. Sixth Form College
A sixth form college (pre-university college in Malaysia) is an educational institution, where students aged 16 to 19 study typically for advanced post-school level qualifications such as GCE Advanced Level, A Levels, Business and Technology Education Council level 3 (BTEC), and the International Baccalaureate Diploma, or school-level qualifications such as General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) examinations and BTEC level 2 qualifications. Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme
The Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme, known as TASS, is a scheme of Sport England (UK government-funded) to find and support prospective talented athletes. History Over five hundred athletes are supported by this scheme, in around thirty sports (in high performance sport). The scheme began in 2004. Operation It is run by Northumbria University in Newcastle upon Tyne. Athletes are over 16. Prospective athletes are nominated by the national governing body for that sport. These athletes are at the top of their Sport England Talent Pathway, and must be in full-time education. Athletes are nominated only by the governing bodies, and cannot make individual applications. The scheme is largely delivered by English universities. The scholarship is worth up to £3,500 a year. Some athletes can also be funded (additionally) through UK Sport. Rowing At The 2012 Summer Olympics – Men's Eight
The men's eight competition at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London took place at Dorney Lake which, for the purposes of the Games venue, was officially termed Eton Dorney. It was held from 28 July to 1 August. There were 8 boats (72 competitors) from 8 nations. The event was won by Germany, the nation's first victory as "Germany" (the United Team of Germany, East Germany, and West Germany had combined for 5 gold medals). The German team beat the defending champions Canada, who took silver. Great Britain also slipped one place from their 2008 silver, taking bronze this time. Background This was the 26th appearance of the event. Rowing had been on the programme in 1896 but was cancelled due to bad weather. The men's eight has been held every time that rowing has been contested, beginning in 1900. James Foad
James Foad (born 20 March 1987) is an English rower. At the 2012 Summer Olympics in London he was part of the British crew that won the bronze medal in the men's eight. He was the 2015 European Champion in the men's pair, along with Matt Langridge. Biography James started rowing at the age of 11 at Itchen Rowing Club, following in his father's footsteps. By the time he was 17 he had won the Junior Sculls Championships for the Hants and Dorset region and was the youngest person to win this. The following year he trialled for the GB Junior Team and was selected to row in the M4+ at the World Junior Championships in Brandenburg. He raced with the senior men's squad in 2009, winning a bronze medal in the eight at the first World Cup in Banyoles, and was placed 8th in the second British men's four in Munich. Wade Elliott
Wade Patrick Elliott (born 14 December 1978) is an English former professional footballer who was most recently head coach of EFL League One club Cheltenham Town. He played mainly as a right midfielder but could also play as a central midfielder. Elliott began playing football as a youth player for Southampton before joining non-league Bashley. He began his professional career at AFC Bournemouth after joining from Bashley for £5,000. Chris Draper (born 20 March 1978) is a British sailor who has won multiple World and European championships and a bronze medal at the Sailing at the 2004 Olympic competing in the mixed 49er. Unity 101 (previously known as Unity 24) is a community radio station based in Southampton, England, a voluntary organisation catering to the Asian and ethnic minority communities in the area. The station was previously only on the air for one month a year, but on 8 December 2005 began a five-year licence to broadcast permanently. The show's weekday lineup consists predominantly of Indian music in Hindi, Gujarati, Punjabi and English, with a 'Community Hour' of discussion from 3pm to 4pm.
