Bartlett Building (Cincinnati)
The Renaissance Cincinnati Downtown Hotel (previously known as the Bartlett Building and the Union Trust Building) is a historic building in downtown Cincinnati, Ohio, located at 4th & Walnut Street. The 19-story tower was the tallest building in the state for 3 years until completion of the Fourth & Walnut Center. The Union Trust Building was dedicated January 1, 1901. In 1985, the skyscraper was renamed for its new owners, The Bartlett Company. The company sold the building for $8 million in 2006. At the time, it was also home to Fosdick & Hilmer (engineering firm), an American Airlines reservation center, CVS Pharmacy, Phillip Bortz Jewelers, and Jimmy John's among many others. In June 2010, after a second failed sale of the building, Fifth Third Bank foreclosed on the property and all tenants vacated the building. An affiliate of Columbus real estate firm E.V. Renaissance Hotels is a luxury hotel brand of Marriott International. It was founded in 1981 as Ramada Renaissance, an upscale brand of Ramada Inns. West Fourth Street Historic District is a registered historic district in downtown Cincinnati, Ohio, listed in the National Register of Historic Places on August 13, 1976. It contained 32 contributing buildings when it was listed, but an additional building, 309 Vine Street, was added in a 2015 boundary increase. A smaller, albeit older historic district, the East Fourth Street Historic District, lies several blocks to the east. In the early part of the nineteenth century, Fourth Street was lined with exclusive mansions and an opera house. Daniel Hudson Burnham (September 4, 1846 – June 1, 1912) was an American architect and urban designer. A proponent of the '' Beaux-Arts'' movement, he may have been, "the most successful power broker the American architectural profession has ever produced."
