Barry Heneghan
Barry Heneghan (born ), also known as Barra Ó hÉanacháin, is an Irish independent who has been a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Dublin Bay North constituency since the 2024 general election. Early life and education Heneghan attended Belvedere College. During his time in school, he was awarded the Zayed Sustainability Prize for pioneering on-site energy and water sustainability with solar power and rainwater harvesting. Heneghan graduated from Dublin City University in 2022 with a Master's degree. Media career Heneghan was the presenter of the TG4 show ''Barragram''. Political career ''The Phoenix described Heneghan as "a political protégé of the former Independent TD Finian McGrath." A Teachta Dála ( ; ; plural ), abbreviated as TD (plural ''TDanna'' in Irish language, Irish, TDs in English), is a member of Dáil Éireann, the lower house of the Oireachtas, the parliament of Republic of Ireland, Ireland. The official English translation of the term is "Dáil Deputy". An equivalent position would be a Member of parliament, Member of Parliament (MP) in the UK or Member of Congress in the USA. The 34th Dáil was elected at the 2024 general election on 29 November 2024 and first met on 18 December 2024. The members of Dáil Éireann, the house of representatives of the Oireachtas (legislature) of Ireland, are known as TDs. It is sitting with the 27th Seanad as the Houses of the Oireachtas. There are 174 TDs in the 34th Dáil, an increase of 14 from the 33rd Dáil. The 34th Dáil must be dissolved by the president at the request of the taoiseach within five years of its first sitting. Sinn Féin ( ; ; ) is an Irish republican and democratic socialist political party active in both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. Michael Lowry (politician)
Michael Lowry (born 13 March 1953) is an Irish independent politician who has served as a Teachta Dála (TD) since 1987, currently for the Tipperary North constituency. He previously served as Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications from 1994 to 1996 and Chair of the Fine Gael parliamentary party from 1993 to 1994. Lowry is a former chair of the Fine Gael party and was Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications between 1994 and 1996. He resigned from his ministry in some controversy. Fine Gael barred him from standing for the party again. Thereafter he ran as an Independent candidate and has maintained his seat in the Dáil ever since. The 27th Seanad has been in office since February 2025. The 2025 Seanad election took place in January 2025, following the 2024 Irish general election, 2024 general election to the 34th Dáil on 29 November 2024. It was fully composed on 7 February 2025 on the nomination of members by the taoiseach. Background The Constitution of Ireland requires a general election for Seanad Éireann, the senate of the Oireachtas, to take place no later than ninety days after the dissolution of Dáil Éireann.
