Barron Lake
Barron Lake is a lake in southeastern Labrador near Sandwich Bay, Canada. It covers just under and is at an elevation of . The lake is located in the 13H12 NTS zone. Barron River flows out of the lake and joins with North River about to the north. The Mealy Mountains surround the lake, which is also a part of the Mealy Mountains National Park Reserve. Geology The lake is surrounded by late-Labradorian granitoid intrusions (dated 1660-1600 ma): megacrystic/porphyritic granite to granodiorite; early-Labradorian granitoid and associated rocks (dated 1678-1671 ma): foliated to gneissic granite and alkali feldspar granite, foliated to gneissic syenite, alkali feldspar syenite and alkali feldspar granite, and compositionally equivalent well-banded gneiss; and pre-Labradorian supracrustal rocks (dated 1800-1770 ma): pelitic schist and gneiss, quartz-feldspar psammitic schist and gneiss, and metasedimentary diatexite. Labrador
Labrador () is a geographic and cultural region within the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador. It is the primarily continental portion of the province and constitutes 71% of the province's area but is home to only 6% of its population. It is separated from the island of Newfoundland by the Strait of Belle Isle. It is the largest and northernmost geographical region in the four Atlantic provinces. Granite
Granite ( ) is a coarse-grained (phanerite, phaneritic) intrusive rock, intrusive igneous rock composed mostly of quartz, alkali feldspar, and plagioclase. It forms from magma with a high content of silica and alkali metal oxides that slowly cools and solidifies underground. It is common in the continental crust of Earth, where it is found in igneous intrusions. These range in size from dike (geology), dikes only a few centimeters across to batholiths exposed over hundreds of square kilometers. Granite is typical of a larger family of ''granitic rocks'', or ''granitoids'', that are composed mostly of coarse-grained quartz and feldspars in varying proportions. Diatexite
Migmatite is a composite rock found in medium and high-grade metamorphic environments, commonly within Precambrian cratonic blocks. It consists of two or more constituents often layered repetitively: one layer is an older metamorphic rock that was reconstituted subsequently by partial melting ("paleosome"), while the alternate layer has a pegmatitic, aplitic, granitic or generally plutonic appearance ("neosome"). Commonly, migmatites occur below deformed metamorphic rocks that represent the base of eroded mountain chains. Migmatites form under extreme temperature and pressure conditions during prograde metamorphism, when partial melting occurs in metamorphic paleosome.
