Barrhead High School
Barrhead High School is a secondary school in Barrhead, East Renfrewshire. It was established in 1967. Fiona Johnston is the current headmistress, appointed in 2020. The school underwent a £30 million refurbishment in 2017 so the school is now fully equipped with the latest tech and recourses, because of this the school offers vocational courses. Barrhead, East Renfrewshire
Barrhead (, ) is a town in East Renfrewshire, Scotland, southwest of Glasgow city centre on the edge of the Gleniffer Braes. At the 2011 census its population was 17,268. History Barrhead was formed when a series of small textile-producing villages (Barrhead, Arthurlie, Grahamston and Gateside) gradually grew into one another to form one continuous town. According to local historian James McWhirter, the name "Barrhead" first appeared in 1750. Glanderston House, to the south, at one time belonged to the Stewart kings of Scotland. In 1851 there was an explosion at the Victoria Pit colliery in nearby Nitshill, killing 63 men and boys who worked in the mine, many of whom lived in Barrhead. The victims were buried in a mass grave in the yard at St John's Church on Darnley Road, and although some bodies were later exhumed and reburied in other cemeteries, some may still reside at St John's in an unmarked grave. Thomas Elder Dickson
Dr Thomas Elder Dickson PSSA FRSE (26 August 1899 – 31 March 1978) was a Scottish artist operational through the 20th century. He was also Vice-Principal of the Edinburgh College of Art from 1947 to 1968. He was President of the Society of Scottish Artists 1946 to 1950. Life He was born on 26 August 1899. He attended Barrhead High School. In 1916, during the First World War he joined the Royal Flying Corps (later the RAF). After the war he attended the University of Glasgow graduating with an MA. Moving to Edinburgh he gained a PhD in 1936 from the University of Edinburgh. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh in 1940. Gregor Fisher
Gregor Fisher (born 22 December 1953) is a Scottish comedian and actor. He is best known for his portrayal of the title character in the comedy series '' Rab C. Nesbitt'', a role he has played since the show's first episode in 1988. He has also had roles in films such as ''Without a Clue'' (1988), ''Love Actually'' (2003), ''The Merchant of Venice'' (2004) and '' Whisky Galore!'' (2016). Douglas Henshall
Douglas James "Dougie" Henshall (born 19 November 1965) is a Scottish television, film and stage actor. He is best known for his roles as Professor Nick Cutter in the science fiction series ''Primeval (TV series), Primeval'' (2007–2011) and Detective Inspector Jimmy Pérez in the crime drama ''Shetland (TV series), Shetland'' (2013–2022). Allison McGourty
Allison McGourty is a British film producer and screenwriter. Early life Allison McGourty was born in Bristol, England. As a child she moved to Venice, Italy, then relocated to Gleniffer Braes, on the boundary of Barrhead in East Renfrewshire, Scotland, where she attended the Cross Arthurlie Primary School. As a young girl she was a competitive horsewoman, qualifying for the Horse of the Year Show. Alex McLeish
Alexander McLeish (born 21 January 1959) is a Scottish professional football manager and former player. He played as a defender for Aberdeen during their 1980s glory years, making nearly 500 League appearances for the club, and won 77 caps for Scotland. McLeish started his managerial career with spells at Motherwell and Hibernian, before guiding Rangers to two championships and five cup wins in five years. McLeish spent ten months as manager of the Scotland national team which narrowly failed to qualify for the finals of the 2008 UEFA European championship.
