Michael Fieldhouse Barratt (3 January 1928 – 10 July 2022) was an English television presenter and journalist. He was best known for his period as the main presenter of '' Nationwide'' from 1969 to 1977. Early life and career Michael Barratt was born in Leeds, West Riding of Yorkshire. His father, Wallace Barratt, was a tax inspector, while Doris, his mother died of tuberculosis when Michael was aged six. Barratt was educated at Rossall School, an independent boys' school near Fleetwood, Lancashire, and at Paisley Grammar School in Scotland. After leaving school and learning shorthand, he joined Kemsley Newspapers in Glasgow, beginning as a tea boy and horoscope writer on the '' Sunday Mail''. Michael Reed Barratt (born April 16, 1959) is an American physician and a NASA astronaut. Board certification, Board certified in Internal medicine, internal and aerospace medicine, he served as a flight surgeon for NASA before his selection as an astronaut and has played a role in developing NASA's space medicine programs for both the Shuttle–Mir program and International Space Station. His first spaceflight was a long-duration mission to the International Space Station as a flight engineer on the Expedition 19 and Expedition 20, 20 crew. In March 2011, Barratt completed his second spaceflight as a crew member of STS-133. Mary Barratt Due
Mary Louise Barratt Due (9 April 1888 – 24 December 1969) was known as one of the most influential Norwegian pianists in the 20th century. She was the daughter of the pastor Thomas Ball Barratt and the preacher , née Jakobson. In 1916 she married the violinist Henrik Adam Due, and together they founded the Barratt Due Institute of Music in 1927. Their children were the musicians Stephan Henrik Barratt-Due and Esther Barratt-Due. Biography Barratt Due was born in Bergen, Norway, but the family moved the following year to Kristiania (Oslo), where her father was a minister in the Methodist Church. Legh Barratt, erroneously recorded at times as Leigh Barratt (11 December 1871 – 14 December 1950) was an English cricketer from Altrincham in Cheshire, England. Barratt played between 1894 and 1897, largely for Norfolk, though he also took part in two tours of the West Indies: Robert Slade Lucas' 1894–95 tour and Arthur Priestley's 1896–97 tour. Sir Lawrence Arthur Barratt (14 November 1927 – 19 December 2012) was an English accountant and businessman who founded Barratt Developments, one of the largest housebuilders in the United Kingdom. Career Brought up in the North East of England, Barratt left school at 14 and initially trained as an accountant. Frustrated at the high purchase prices of houses for first-time buyers, in 1953 Barratt decided to go ahead and build his own house in Darras Hall. Lawrie Barratt established Barratt Developments in 1958. As chairman and chief executive and by extensive marketing he expanded it to become one of the largest housebuilders in the United Kingdom. Knighted in 1982, he retired from both roles in 1988 but in 1991 was called out of retirement, following the early 1990s recession, to take the role of chairman again and restore the fortunes of the business. He was based in Coventry, West Midlands, during his time on the List. Career He became a Football League linesman in 1978, and just two years later was promoted to the Referees List.
