Barracora
''Barracora'' is a 1981 pinball machine released by Williams Electronics. It was based on the Williams System 7 design which debuted with the ''Black Knight'' game. Design and layout ''Barracoras backglass art was inspired by the artist H. R. Giger's 1974 painting '' Li I''. Giger is known for his design in the science fiction horror movie '' Alien'' (1979). The face was derived from a young Brook Shields. Among the games elements are two banks of drop targets, including a three-target set (B, A, and RR) and a five-target set (A, C, O, R, A). The playfield is on a single level with no ramps, and was in development for two years. There is a multiball which can be played with 2 or 3 balls. It was Williams first game with a "super bonus multiplier", which could increase the bonus count to 25X. Taito of Brazil (Portuguese: ''Taito do Brasil'') was a pinball and Arcade game, arcade manufacturer located in São Paulo, Brazil. History The company originally started out as Clover Electronic Amusement in 1968, then became Taito of Brazil in 1972 by Abraham "Abba" Kogan, the son of the founder of the parent company Taito located in Japan. This subsidiary was originally an importer of existing U.S. and Japanese machine components to be assembled within the country. However, the taxation on imports had been growing steadily, and the government's belief that pinball is a game of chance and considered a gambling machine, led to strict import rules. WMS Industries, Inc. was an American electronic gaming and amusement manufacturer in Enterprise, Nevada. It was merged into Scientific Games in 2016. WMS's predecessor was the Williams Manufacturing Company, founded in 1943 by Harry E. Williams. Roger Sharpe (pinball)
Roger Sharpe is an author, editor, professional pinball player, game designer, and activist. 1976 NYC pinball hearing Sharpe gained notoriety following a 1976 New York City hearing where he provided a demonstration to members of the Manhattan City Council, that pinball was a game of skill rather than a game of chance, and therefore not subject to legal prohibitions on gambling. While working for GQ Magazine, he was recruited by the Amusement and Music Operators Association to testify, and successfully predicted the position of the ball in a machine arrayed for the council and media in attendance. Speaking at the hearing, Sharpe said "Look, there’s skill, because if I pull the plunger back just right, the ball will, I hope, go down this particular lane." Pinball games are a family of games in which a ball is propelled into a specially designed table where it bounces off various obstacles, scoring points either en route or when it comes to rest. ''Black Knight'' is a 1980 pinball machine designed by Steve Ritchie (who also provides the Knight's voice) and released by Williams Electronics. Ritchie designed two sequels: '' Black Knight 2000'', released by Williams in 1989, and ''Black Knight: Sword of Rage'', released by Stern Pinball in 2019. Description This game is known for its two-level playfield (a first for a pinball game), and introduced the patented "Magna-Save", in which a player-controlled magnet is used to prevent outlane drains. This was first of a series of four games that were both two-level and featured magna-save. Li Tobler
Li Tobler (30 November 1947 – 19 May 1975) was a Swiss stage actress and model for the artist H. R. Giger, two of whose major paintings were portraits of Tobler. Also, her face can be recognised in some of his semi-abstract subjects where man and machine are fused into one. Tobler lived with Giger in squalor, often inside condemned buildings, eventually becoming romantically involved. Although their relationship was open, it remained deeply intense and creatively inspiring to Giger. Tobler suffered from emotional insecurity, heavy drug dependence and physical exhaustion from theatrical tours. She died by suicide at age 27 as a result of constant depression.
