Baron Braye
Baron Braye, of Eaton Bray in the County of Bedford, is a title in the Peerage of England. It was created in 1529 for Edmund Braye, 1st Baron Braye. However, the family originally originate from Normandy, they are direct descendants of Chevalier Baudry de Bray who came over to England in the Battle of Hastings of 1066. The family's local area in Leicestershire played host to two battles in England of note, the Battle of Bosworth Field where the current family's ancestor's were on opposing side, and also Battle of Naseby during the First English Civil War, where the old manor house hosted King Charles I. The barony was created by writ, which means that it can descend through both male and female lines. He was succeeded by his son, the second Baron. Earl Verney
Earl Verney, in the Province of Leinster, was a title in the Peerage of Ireland. Sir Ralph Verney sat as a member of parliament for Aylesbury, for Great Bedwyn and for Buckingham. In 1661 he was created a Baronet, of Middle Claydon in the County of Buckingham, in the Baronetage of England. His son Sir John Verney, Bt, was a member of parliament for Buckinghamshire and for Amersham. In 1703, he was raised to the Peerage of Ireland as Baron Verney of Belturbet, in the County of Cavan, and Viscount Fermanagh. His son, the second Viscount, represented Amersham and Wendover in Parliament. In 1742 he was created Earl Verney, in the Province of Leinster, in the Peerage of Ireland. The Cave, later Cave-Browne, later Cave-Browne-Cave Baronetcy, of Stanford in the County of Northampton, is a title in the Baronetage of England. Origin It was created on 30 June 1641 for Thomas Cave, a Royalist who fought in the English Civil War. Granted lands in South and North Cave in Yorkshire by William the Conqueror, by the fifteenth century the Caves had moved to Stanford on the boundary of Northamptonshire and Leicestershire to become "a wealthy and powerful clan, foremost among the new men of the age, the ''nouveaux riches'', the shrewd, rapacious, grasping gentry raised up by the Tudor dynasty". Robert Otway-Cave (1796 – 29 November 1844), styled The Honourable from 1839, was an Irish aristocrat and British politician. Sarah Otway-Cave, 3rd Baroness Braye (2 July 1768–21 February 1862) was an English noblewoman. The title of Baron Braye, originally created in 1529 for her ancestor Edmund Braye, 1st Baron Braye and abeyant since the death of the second baron in 1557, was called out of abeyance in her favor in 1839. John Braye, 2nd Baron Braye (sometimes spelled Bray; d. 19 November 1557) was an English nobleman, courtier, and soldier of the Tudor period. Family Braye was the son of Edmund Braye, who was elevated to the peerage as the first Baron Braye in 1529, by his wife Jane Halliwell. He was the family's only son, but he had six sisters: Anne, who married George Brooke, 9th Baron Cobham; Elizabeth, who married Sir Ralph Verney, of Pendley and Middle Claydon; Frideswide, who married Sir Percival Hart; Mary, who married Sir Robert Peckham; Dorothy, who married Edmund Brydges, 2nd Baron Chandos; and Frances, who married Thomas Lilfield. Edmund Braye, 1st Baron Braye
Edmund Braye, 1st Baron Braye (or Bray; c. 1484 – 18 October 1539), of Eaton Bray in Bedfordshire, was an English peer. Origins He was the son of John Braye lord of the manor of Eaton Bray in Bedfordshire; his younger brother was Sir Edward Braye. He inherited a large portion of the property of his uncle, Sir Reginald Bray, which was confirmed by a deed of settlement made between himself and William Sandys, 1st Baron Sandys and his wife Margery, "in adjustment of a dispute between the parties regarding the lands of the deceased". Career He served as Sheriff of Bedfordshire for 1514 and as Sheriff of Sussex and Surrey in 1522. Lutterworth is a market town and civil parish in the Harborough district of Leicestershire, England. Stanford Hall (Lutterworth)
Stanford Hall is a stately home in Leicestershire, England, near the village of Stanford on Avon (which is in Northamptonshire) and the town of Lutterworth, Leicestershire. The population of any residents in the area is included in the civil parish of Misterton with Walcote. History Ancestral home of the Cave family from c. 1430, the hall was built in the 1690s for Sir Roger Cave, 2nd Baronet. Described by Simon Jenkins as the "perfect William and Mary house", the architect was William Smith of Warwick. In 1792 Sarah, daughter of Sir Thomas Cave Bt, inherited the Cave estate on the death of her nephew Sir Thomas Cave, 7th Baronet.
