Barnsley F.C. Ladies
Barnsley Football Club Women is an English women's football club affiliated with Barnsley F.C. and based in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, England. The club currently play in the fifth tier of English women's football. History A women's football club connected to Barnsley F.C. had run since the 1980s, but severed ties with the men's team in 2018 to become Barnsley W.F.C. Affiliated with the men's club, the new ladies team was announced on 18 June 2020, and were placed in the Sheffield & Hallamshire Division One for their inaugural season. The season was abandoned due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but the club were granted promotion to the North East Regional Division One South. Barnsley won the 2022–23 North East Regional Division One South, and were promoted to the North East Regional Premier Division. Oakwell
Oakwell is a multi-purpose sports ground in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, England used by Barnsley Football Club for home fixtures, and those of their reserves. As of 2023, the Barnsley F.C. Women's team also play at the stadium. While the name generally refers to the main stadium, it also includes several neighbouring venues which form the facilities of the Barnsley FC Academy, an indoor training pitch, a smaller stadium with seating on the south and west sides for around 2,200 spectators, and several training pitches used by the different Barnsley FC squads. Oakwell was the first stadium in English football to have a designated stand for disabled supporters. Until 2003 the stadium and the vast amount of land that surrounds it were owned by Barnsley Football Club, but after the club fell into administration in 2002 the council purchased Oakwell Stadium to allow the club to pay its creditors and remain in the Football League. The Women's FA Challenge Cup is the top annual cup tournament for women's clubs in English football. Founded in 1970, it has been named the WFA Cup, FA Women's Cup, and now Women's FA Cup (currently known as the Adobe Women's FA Cup for sponsorship reasons). Designed as an equivalent to the FA Cup in men's football, the competition began in 1970–71 as the Mitre Challenge Trophy, organised by the Women's Football Association (WFA). The FA Women's National League is a group of six football divisions which sit at the third and fourth tiers of women's football in England. Founded in 1991 as the WFA National League, the league was run by the Women's Football Association, before control was handed to the Football Association in 1994, and the name changed to FA Women's Premier League. The league consisted of the National Division, England's top division until 2010, and the Northern and Southern Divisions, which formed the second tier.
