Barney Eastwood
Bernard Joseph Eastwood (1932 – 9 March 2020) was an Irish bookmaker and boxing promoter. Eastwood was introduced to boxing through weekly tournaments at a US air base near his home and by the tutelage he received from a school teacher from County Cork. Eastwood was born in Cookstown, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland. At 19 years of age he was married, to his wife Frances, and was living in Carrickfergus running a pub and assisting in the running of a local boxing club. In the late 1950s, Eastwood was running small boxing shows in Belfast. Eastwood was well known first as a successful bookmaker for many years. Amongst the boxers he later promoted were Barry McGuigan and Dave McAuley. However, after McGuigan's surprise defeat to Steve Cruz in Las Vegas, United States the relationship between the two soured and this led to a costly and acrimonious legal battle. Ulster Hospital
The Ulster Hospital, commonly known as the Ulster, is a teaching hospital in Dundonald (at the eastern edge of Belfast) in County Down, Northern Ireland. It is within the townland of Ballyregan, beside the A20 road. It provides acute services in the North Down, Ards and Castlereagh council areas, as well as east Belfast. It is managed by the South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust. History The hospital was first founded as the Ulster Hospital for Women and Sick Children in 1872. It was initially located on Chichester Street in Belfast City Centre but moved to Templemore Avenue in Mountpottinger in 1892. The first X-ray machine at the hospital was installed in 1920 and Dr Beath was employed to operate it. While located in Mountpottinger the hospital was severely damaged in the Belfast Blitz in 1941. Víctor Córdoba (born March 15, 1962) is a Panamanian former professional boxer who competed from 1981 to 1999. Known as "Toby", Córdoba had a successful career and captured a world title. Professional career He turned pro in 1981 and captured the Lineal and WBA super middleweight titles from Christophe Tiozzo in 1991. Ray Close (born 20 January 1969 in Belfast, Northern Ireland) is a British retired boxer who fought for most of his career in the Super Middleweight division, ending his career in the Light Heavyweight division. Noel Magee
Noel Magee (born 16 December 1965) is an Irish former professional boxer who competed from 1985 to 1997. He held the Commonwealth light heavyweight title in 1995. Background Magee grew up in the strongly nationalist Ardoyne area of Belfast and came from a boxing obsessed family. Magee's younger brother Eamonn stated that for his mother "boxing was as important as school". Crisanto España
Crisanto España (born October 25, 1964 in Venezuela) is a former boxer who was the WBA welterweight champion of the world. España fought out of Belfast, Northern Ireland and turned pro in 1984 after accumulating a 54-10 amateur record. España impressively won his first 30 fights, including the WBA Welterweight Title with an upset TKO in the 8th round over Meldrick Taylor in 1992. He successfully defended the title twice before being stopped by Ike Quartey in the 11th round in 1994.
