Barney Bentall And The Legendary Hearts
Barney Bentall and the Legendary Hearts are a Canadian rock band, based out of Vancouver, British Columbia, that formed in 1980. The band's name was taken from the title of Lou Reed's 1983 album. Biography Bentall's first group was Brandon Wolf, a pseudonym he also used, which formed in 1978 with the original line-up consisting of: Bentall (lead vocals, keyboards, rhythm guitar), Doug McFetridge (guitar), Kevin Swain (bass) and Derek Morrison (drums) and which later changed to: Brad Kilburn (bass), Wilf Froese (keyboards) and Jack Guppy (drums). With songs written by Bentall and long-time childhood friend and songwriting partner Gary Fraser (who sometimes wrote using the pseudonym Robert Arrow), as well as McFetridge and Swain, they self-released "Excerpt from the Montmartre Letters", a 4-track 45 rpm EP in 1979. Bob Rock
Robert Jens Rock (born April 19, 1954) is a Canadian record producer, recording engineer and musician. In 1976, Rock joined Little Mountain Sound Studios, starting out as a recording engineer and sound mixer. During his time there, he collaborated with producer Bruce Fairbairn, engineering and mixing several influential rock albums, including Loverboy's '' Get Lucky'' (1981), Bon Jovi's '' Slippery When Wet'' (1986), and Aerosmith's '' Permanent Vacation'' (1987). Rock and singer-songwriter Paul Hyde formed the band Payola$ in 1978. Payola$ were best known for the single "Eyes of a Stranger", from their 1982 album '' No Stranger to Danger'', an album that won the band four Juno Awards. Quarry Press was a Canadian publishing company based in Kingston, Ontario. Established in 1965 at Queen's University, the company experienced financial difficulties in the 1990s and became a subsidiary of Stoddart Publishing in 1995. History Quarry Press was established in 1965 at Queen's University in Kingston by the poets Tom Eadie, Tom Marshall, and Colin Norman. American Boyfriends
''American Boyfriends'' is a 1989 Canadian comedy-drama film written and directed by Sandy Wilson and starring Margaret Langrick, John Wildman, Jason Blicker, Liisa Repo-Martell, and Delia Breit. It is the sequel to '' My American Cousin'' (1985). Langrick and Wildman reprise their roles as Sandy Wilcox and Butch Walker respectively. Genie Award
The Genie Awards were given out annually by the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television to recognize the best of Canadian cinema from 1980–2012. They succeeded the Canadian Film Awards (1949–1978), known as the "Etrog Awards" for sculptor Sorel Etrog, who designed its statuette. Genie Award candidates were selected from submissions made by the owners of Canadian films or their representatives, based on the criteria laid out in the ''Genie Rules and Regulations'' booklet which were distributed to Academy members and industry members. André-Philippe Gagnon was the host for the ceremonies, which were broadcast on CBC Television. ''Barney Bentall and the Legendary Hearts'' is the eponymous debut album by the Canadian band Barney Bentall and the Legendary Hearts. It became a platinum record in Canada. The album was recorded at Mushroom Studios in Vancouver, British Columbia between December 1987 and March 1988, and was published by Epic Records and CBS Records in 1988. The song "Something to Live For" became a number one hit in Canada, the band's first top-ten single. Two other songs, "House of Love (is Haunted)" and "Come Back to Me", also charted in Canada, and the band became a "pop radio fixture" in Canada. Gary Fraser, a friend of Barney Bentall, wrote all the album's lyrics. He began writing lyrics for Bentall in 1978, when he sent Bentall poems.
