Siganus Virgatus
''Siganus virgatus'', the barhead spinefoot, doublebar rabbitfish or doublebar spinefoot is a species of marine ray-finned fish, a rabbitfish belonging to the family Siganidae. It is found in the Indo-Pacific region. Taxonomy ''Siganus virgatus'' was first formally described in 1835 as ''Amphacanthus virgatus'' by the French zoologist Achille Valenciennes with the type locality given as Java. The specific name ''virgatus'' was not explained by Valenciennes but it means "striped", this is presumed to be a reference to the two oblique brown bands on the front part of the body and head of this fish. ''Siganus virgatus'' is closely related to '' S. doliatus'', with which it is apparently hybridized in the Indo-Malay region. Description ''Siganus virgatus'' has a deep and laterally compressed body which has a depth which fits 1.8 to 2.3 times into its standard length. The dorsal profile of the head is bulging and the front nostril has a high flange, slightly higher and pointed to ...

Species The currently recognized species in this genus are: * '' Microphis aculeatus'' ( Kaup, 1856) * '' Microphis argulus'' ( W. K. H. Peters, 1855) (flat-nosed pipepfish) * ''Microphis brachyurus'' (Bleeker, 1854) (short-tailed pipefish) * '' Microphis brevidorsalis'' ( de Beaufort, 1913) (stream pipefish) * '' Microphis caudocarinatus'' ( M. Bar-headed Goose
The bar-headed goose (''Anser indicus'') is a goose that breeds in Central Asia in colonies of thousands near mountain lakes and winters in South Asia, as far south as peninsular India. It lays three to eight eggs at a time in a ground nest. It is known for the extreme altitudes it reaches when migrating across the Himalayas. Taxonomy The grey goose genus ''Anser'' has no other member indigenous to the Indian region, nor any at all to the Ethiopian, Australian, or Neotropical regions. Ludwig Reichenbach placed the bar-headed goose in the monotypic genus ''Eulabeia'' in 1852, though John Boyd's taxonomy treats both ''Eulabeia'' and the genus ''Chen'' as subgenera of ''Anser''. Description The bird is pale grey and is easily distinguished from any of the other grey geese of the genus ''Anser'' by the black bars on its head. It is also much paler than the other geese in this genus. In flight, its call is a typical goose honking. A mid-sized goose, it measures in total length and ...
