Bardd Plant Cymru
; sometimes shortened to ('Children's poet (laureate)')) is the poet laureate of Welsh-language children's literature. It is one of the two national children's literature roles in Wales, alongside the English-language Children's Laureate Wales role. It is run by Literature Wales, and supported by the Welsh Government, S4C, the Welsh Books Council and Urdd Gobaith Cymru. The current holder, for 2023–2025, is Nia Morais. The role was established in 2000, and has since been held by 18 people. Description Bardd Plant Cymru is a national literature role, which aims to encourage imagination and inspiration towards Welsh-speaking children using Welsh-language poetry. Gwyneth Glyn
Gwyneth Glyn (born Gwyneth Glyn Evans, 14 December 1979) is a Welsh language poet and musician. Biography Gwyneth Glyn was born in St David's Hospital in Bangor, Gwynedd, and grew up at her family home in Llanarmon. She was educated at Ysgol Glan y Môr, Pwllheli and Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor before going on to gain a first class honours degree in Philosophy and Theology at Jesus College, Oxford. She was a member of the band Coca Rosa and the Dirty Cousins. She won the Crown at the 1998 Urdd Gobaith Cymru Eisteddfod, and was the Welsh Children's Poet Laureate for 2006–2007. A literary award or literary prize is an award presented in recognition of a particularly lauded Literature, literary piece or body of work. It is normally presented to an author. Poet Laureate Of The United Kingdom
The British poet laureate is an honorary position appointed by the monarch of the United Kingdom on the advice of the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, prime minister. The role does not entail any specific duties, but there is an expectation that the holder will write verse for significant national occasions. The laureateship dates to 1616 when a pension was provided to Ben Jonson, but the first official laureate was John Dryden, appointed in 1668 by Charles II of England, Charles II. National Poet Of Wales
The post of National Poet of Wales () was established in May 2005 by Academi, the Welsh National Literature Promotion Agency and Society for Writers, now known as Literature Wales. The current holder of the position is Hanan Issa, who was appointed for a period of three years in July 2022. Background The National Poet of Wales acts as a cultural ambassador for the nation, creating works which promote the image of Wales; works are read at ceremonial and official occasions. Dewi "Pws" Morris
Dewi Grey "Pws" Morris (21 April 1948 – 22 August 2024) was a Welsh musician, poet, actor, television presenter and comedian. He was known for being the lead singer of the Welsh pop band and later for his comedy series ' on S4C. He held the post of Bardd Plant Cymru (Welsh-language children's poet) between 2010 and 2011. Early life Dewi Grey Morris was born in Treboeth, Swansea. He went to Ysgol Gymraeg Lôn Las and then Dynevor School, Swansea. He first came to the attention of the whole of Wales as a member of Aelwyd yr Urdd, Morriston. Afterwards, he went to Cyncoed College in Cardiff to train as a teacher and taught for a few years at Splott, but two years later he developed his interest in the world of acting with a full-time job with Cwmni Theatr Cymru. Twm Morys
Twm Morys (born 1961) is a Welsh poet and musician. Biography Twm Morys was born in 1961 in Oxford, a son to the writer Jan Morris. He was brought up in Llanystumdwy and attended Ysgol y Llan, before attending Marshcourt boarding school at the age of seven, and then Shrewsbury School. Morys returned to Wales to study a Welsh-language A-level at Brecon High School. Morys graduated from the University of Wales, Aberystwyth with a degree in Celtic Studies; he also won the inter-collegiate chair whilst at the university. He has worked for BBC Radio Cymru as a researcher and later as a poet and singer. Morys later moved to Brittany, where he lived for ten years and worked as a lecturer at the University of Rennes. In addition to two volumes of poetry, Twm Morys has written essays for literary reviews.
