Barcelona Gipsy BalKan Orchestra
Barcelona Gipsy balKan Orchestra (BGKO) is a band created in 2012 in Barcelona, Spain. The band draws on many musical influences, including Klezmer music, Jazz Manouche, and Roma music. BGKO also explores the sounds of some Eastern European regions and draws inspiration from music in the regions of South America, Spain, and the Middle East. In 2015 the band changed its name from Barcelona Gipsy Klezmer Orchestra to Barcelona Gipsy balKan Orchestra, keeping BGKO as its acronym. History The permanent members of BGKO are vocalist Margherita Abita ( Italy), clarinetist Daniel Carbonell ( Spain), accordionist Mattia Schirosa ( Italy), double bassist Ivan Kovačević ( Serbia), guitarist Julien Chanal ( France), and percussionist Stelios Togias ( Greece). Vlado Kreslin (born 29 November 1953) is a Slovenian singer-songwriter and folk rock musician. Life and work Kreslin was born in the village of Beltinci in the Prekmurje region of Slovenia, then part of Yugoslavia. He began his musical career in his student years, first coming to acclaim as the lead singer with the rock group '' Martin Krpan''. Ferus Mustafov, also known as King Ferus Mustafov (born December 20, 1950), is a Macedonian saxophonist of Romani descent. He is a multi-instrumentalist and is highly popular in his home country for his repertoire of Balkan folk and gypsy, or Rom, wedding music. He is also credited as one of the artists from the Balkan region to have made this type of music internationally popular. "Hasta Siempre, Comandante," ("Until Forever, Commander" in English) or simply "Hasta Siempre," is a 1965 song by Cuban composer Carlos Puebla. The song's lyrics are a reply to revolutionary Che Guevara's farewell letter when he left Cuba, in order to foster revolution in the Congo and later Bolivia, where he was captured and killed. The lyrics recount key moments of the Cuban Revolution, describing Che Guevara and his role as a revolutionary commander. The song became iconic after Guevara's death, and many left-leaning artists did their own cover versions of the song afterwards.
