Barbara Wright (translator)
Barbara Winifred Wright (13 October 1915 – 3 March 2009) was an English translator of modern French literature. Early life Wright was born on 13 October 1915 in Worthing, West Sussex. After attending Godolphin School in Salisbury, she studied to be a pianist at the Royal College of Music in London and trained under Alfred Cortot in Paris. Wright taught at Dora Russell's Beacon Hill School from 1936 to 1937. In 1938 she married Walter Hubbard, a kinsman of the Barons Addington – the couple had a daughter in 1944, before separating in 1957. Though she never formally studied as a translator, Wright believed that her work as an accompanist helped her capture the rhythm of the text. Barbara Wright (born August 3, 1933) is an American Republican Party (United States), Republican Party politician who served four terms in the New Jersey General Assembly, from 1992 to 2000, where she represented the New Jersey's 14th legislative district, 14th Legislative District. A full-time legislator, Wright served as Mayor of Plainsboro Township, New Jersey in 1984 and 1985. Early career Wright earned her undergraduate degree in nursing from Boston College, was awarded a Master of Education from Rutgers University and earned a Master of Arts in nursing education, and doctor of philosophy from New York University. She served on the board of education of the West Windsor-Plainsboro Regional School District from 1974 to 1977, was deputy mayor of Plainsboro Township from 1977 to 1983 and served as the township's mayor in 1984 and 1985. Barbara Wright (professor)
Barbara Wright (''née'' Robinson, 8 March 1935 – 14 December 2019), Emerita Professor of French at Trinity College, Dublin, was an Irish translator, notably of Eugène Fromentin, Charles Baudelaire and Gustave Moreau, as well as other nineteenth-century French writers, philosophers and artists. Education and career The only child of William Edward Robinson and Rosaleen ''née'' Hoskin, she grew up in Terenure, County Dublin, and attended Alexandra College before reading Law and French at TCD, graduating LLB in 1956, proceeding MA in 1960. She pursued further studies in French literature at Newnham College, Cambridge, taking a PhD in 1962. Married to Professor Bill Wright in 1961, she lectured at the Universities of Manchester and Exeter, before returning to Trinity College, Dublin in 1965. Her novel, ''Crow'', a historical fiction novel for children, has received starred reviews from ''Kirkus Reviews'', ''The Horn Book Magazine'', ''School Library Journal'', and ''Publishers Weekly''. ''Crow'' was named a Notable Social Studies Trade Book in 2013 by the National Council for the Social Studies. Biography Wright was born November 18, 1951, in High Point, North Carolina, where she grew up and attended the University of North Carolina. She currently lives in Denver, Colorado.
