Barbara Stephens (born November 1, 1939, as Boysa Stephens in Atlanta, Georgia) is an American singer. Stephens spent most of her career as a solo artist with Satellite Records (later Stax Records Stax Records is an American record company, originally based in Memphis, Tennessee. Founded in 1957 as Satellite Records, the label changed its name to Stax Records in 1961. It also shared its operations with sister label Volt Records. Barbara Stephens (August 30, 1922 – July 31, 1947) was an American journalist who died in a mysterious plane crash in Gansu province, China in 1947. Stephens was investigating the Kuomintang treatment of ethnic minorities in the province when in 1947 she traveled to Ili to report on the Soviet-backed Second East Turkestan Republic. That year she was killed in the plane crash on a flight from Xinjiang to Beijing that also killed a Chinese general and the son of a British member of Parliament. Life She was born Barbara Ellen Beerbower on August 30, 1922, in Yonkers, New York, to Louis Dumont Beerbower and Margaret Stephens. Her family relocated to Arlington County, Virginia in the Washington, D.C. area. After her parents' divorce, she changed her name to Stephens, her mother's maiden name. Flat-Tire Murders
The Flat-Tire murders were a series of unsolved murders in Broward and Miami-Dade Counties, Florida, occurring between February 1975 and January 1976. The name originated from the investigators' belief that, when the offender committed two of the murders, he had deflated the tires of the victims' cars. The list of suspected victims ultimately included twelve girls and women whose bodies were discovered in or near South Florida canals. The murders were the subject of a 2021 book entitled ''The Flat Tire Murders: Unsolved Crimes of a South Florida Serial Killer''. The suspected perpetrator was described as a white male, aged between 20 and 25, well-dressed, physically athletic and attractive, possibly married, likely very intelligent with an above-average IQ and a sexual sadist.
