''Coronation Street'' is a British soap opera first broadcast on 9 December 1960. The following is a list of characters that first appeared in 1991, by order of first appearance. Robert Weston Robert Weston, portrayed by Philip Bretherton, was a married dentist who had an affair with Jenny Bradley (Sally Ann Matthews) in 1991. He made his first appearance on 14 January 1991. This would be Bretherton's second of three roles in ''Coronation Street'', after playing Rod, a friend of Suzie Birchall (Cheryl Murray) and Gail Potter (Helen Worth) in 1977 and then going on to play regular character Ian Davenport, a car salesman who had an affair with Sally Webster (Sally Dynevor) between 2004 and 2005. ''Coronation Street'' (colloquially referred to as ''Corrie'') is a British television soap opera created by ITV Granada, Granada Television and shown on ITV (TV network), ITV since 9 December 1960. The programme centres on a cobbled, terraced street in the fictional town of Weatherfield in Greater Manchester. The location was itself based on Salford, the hometown of the show's first screenwriter and creator, Tony Warren. Thelma Barlow (''née'' Pigott; born 19 June 1929) is an English television actress and writer, known for her roles as Mavis Wilton in the long-running ITV soap opera ''Coronation Street'' and as Dolly Bellfield in the BBC One sitcom '' dinnerladies''. She is the oldest living (and overall longest lived) female ''Coronation Street'' cast member. Early life Barlow was born in 1929 in Middlesbrough, North Riding of Yorkshire, the younger of two daughters. Her father, Tommy, a cabinet maker, died of pneumonia five weeks before her birth, aged 37, and Barlow was brought up by her mother Margaret. Vera Duckworth is a fictional character from the Television in the United Kingdom, British ITV (TV network), ITV soap opera ''Coronation Street'', played by Liz Dawn. Harold Goodwin (22 October 1917 – 3 June 2004) was an English actor born in Wombwell, West Riding of Yorkshire, England. Life and career Goodwin trained at RADA and was a stage actor at Liverpool repertory theatre for three years. He appeared in numerous British films of the 1950s and 1960s, usually playing 'flat cap'-wearing working class characters from Northern England or low ranks in the military. Bryan Mosley
Bryan Mosley (25 August 1931 – 9 February 1999) was a British actor, best known for his role as grocer Alf Roberts in the long-running ITV soap opera ''Coronation Street''. Early life Mosley was born in Leeds, an only child, to Agnes Basquill, a print worker, and Jimmy Mosley, a labourer at a dye factory. He attended Leeds Central High School and made his stage debut, aged 10, as the back end of a cow in the pantomime Cinderella. He modelled for clothes catalogues and held a childhood ambition to become a missionary. Alf Roberts
Alfred Sidney "Alf" Roberts, OBE is a fictional character from the British ITV soap opera ''Coronation Street'', played by Bryan Mosley. He ran a grocery shop at No. 15 and was involved in local politics, including two spells as mayor of Weatherfield. The character first appeared on the programme in 1961 on a recurring basis, before finally becoming a regular in 1971 and remaining in the series until he died on 1 January 1999. Kevin Kennedy (born Kevin Patrick Williams; 4 September 1961) is an English actor and musician, best known for playing Curly Watts for 20 years on ITV's long-running soap opera ''Coronation Street''. Norman "Curly" Watts is a fictional character from the British ITV soap opera ''Coronation Street'', from 1983 to 2003, and in a few spin-off DVDs in 2010. Dawn Prescott Dawn Prescott, portrayed by Louise Harrison, was a shop assistant at ''Weatherfield Security Systems'' when Alan Bradley first opened the shop.
